Teams that just miss getting a playoff selection can lose heart. Though it's funny how that excuse only seems to apply to teams who were expected to win but lost. Maybe sometimes you just lose?

I think Georgia was one of the best 4 teams in the country. I don't think Texas would have beaten them if they were both in the National Championship playoffs. But you are correct. We will never know since Georgia was left out of the playoffs. And Texas beat them in the Sugar Bowl.

I don't think that should be held against the victor, and it shouldn't be an excuse for the loser but it's unquestionably the reality in many situations. This Georgia loss is surprising at least to me, because they were taunting Notre Dame on twitter. You'd think they'd be motivated to prove something to the committee and come out on fire.

Even losing by one touchdown to Texas doesn't put Georgia below Notre Dame. I think that is clear. I think everybody realizes that. It is hard to get up for a consolation bowl when you were playing for a national championship, a playoff entry, and just lost a hard fought battle to Alabama in the SEC Championship game.

Agreed, Georgia is better. They're also better than Texas. Again, the lack of motivation is surprising to me in this particular case since they were ripping ND for getting blown out and suggesting they should've been chosen ahead of the Irish. You'd think they'd want to show that on the field. But that's football.
