Now that James Wan has delivered a spectacular underwater epic, an MCU Prince Namor movie would just look like a bad rip-off.

Now that James Wan has delivered a spectacular underwater epic, an MCU Prince Namor movie would just look like a bad rip-off. Because Wan used Namor's backstory to make Arthur more interesting

I don't know much about either character.
But I'm sure they could make it different enough, if they really wanted to.

They probably could make it different but it would seem really pointless now. Best to throw him a TV show on the Disney streaming service at some point, or just have him pop into Agents of SHIELD.
Because Namor is so specifically similar to Aquaman that I can't see having any interest in a watered-down version.
The pun wasn't intended but then I realized how amazing it was so now it's most definitely intended.

Anything the DCEU can do, the MCU can do better. like for instance Wonder Woman, we know how such historical scenario looks MCU-fied: Funny laser battles in World War II and Hail-Hydra Tomatoeheads.
Man Child Universe!
No thanks.

I agree it would seem a bit reactionary, like with the sudden surge of female lead characters after the Wonder Woman success.
Still, if that story is differnet enough, why not. I remember there was an animated ants film called "AntZ", being a more mature fabel-comedy, and there was a more kid-orientated insect film by Disney-Pixar "A bug's life" featuring a ant as lead too.
It's a good DCEU-MCU analogy. I vastly prefer AntZ and never managed to watch A Bug's Life to the end. But I bet there is a huge demographic who sees that completely different...

Namor is one of Marvel oldest characters and is more of a Anti-Hero. I haven't seen Aquaman, so I'm not sure how they approach Arthur, but if Marvel explored that side of Namor they'll be fine.

Kevin Feige must be terrified: DC made an almost decent movie

I don't think people would really care all that much. Captain America vs Iron Man came out a couple months after Batman vs Superman and there wasn't any big cry of ripoff there and the latter movie was better and more successful.
MCU had Captain America a movie set in the past during a World War with a character armed with a shield and then the DCEU did something similar with Wonder Woman and that was better and more successful.
Same could happen again.

Were they ever planning one? Actually they can't, Namor is stuck at Universal along with Hulk. So they can just make a Hulk movie like Thor: Ragnarok or negotiate a Sony-type deal, although I'm sure that won't happen.

Were they ever planning one? OK, here we go, 3 quick questions, answers direct from Kevin Feige's mouth 1) AVENGERS 4 trailer "before the end of the year" 2) Namor COULD make an appearance, still deciding IF & when 3) GUARDIANS 3 status "on hold" 2,279 8:55 PM - Oct 25, 2018

Absolutely. I'm sure Aquaman is a fine film, but Namor really can be used in completely different ways. He could even be the Villain for a couple of films before a heel face turn setting up the Anti-Hero role in subesquent installments.
