Great film. Julia Stiles and Larissa Oleynik play the hot sisters. Heath Ledger does a great rendition of "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You.' I love this movie.
Who else is a fan of this movie?

It was a great entry into the high-school genre. Not only are the sisters hot, but I always liked Kat's friend, Mandella. Plus a good soundtrack.

No. Sorry. I loved the soundtrack though and the movie had some great songs in it like the three below by Letters to Cleo and the Cardigans.

On paper it should have been just another forgettable late '90s teen movie along the lines of She's All That, but 10 Things I Hate About You somehow hits every note just about perfectly. The musical moments come across as charming rather than cheesy, the cast is terrific (especially Alison Janney, who is simply hilarious here) and it's probably one of the most effective feel-good films of the '90s. High marks as a Shakespeare adaptation, too.

Great film. Julia Stiles and Larissa Oleynik play the hot sisters. Heath Ledger does a great rendition of "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You.' I love this movie. Who else is a fan of this movie? I am. And, yes, that scene of Heath Ledger's Patrick singing 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You' to Julia Stiles Kat is a pretty great scene. It also allowed for this amusing parody of the scene in Not Another Teen Movie (2001) - which I think is the last decent parody movie I saw. It was a great entry into the high-school genre. Not only are the sisters hot, but I always liked Kat's friend, Mandella. Plus a good soundtrack. I agree, Sulla. While a lot of those 'teen movies' from the 90's were rather forgettable, I feel this was one of the ones which stood out and it just had the right mix of comedy/'drama'. I'm also delighted to see you mention Kat's friend, Mandella, as she didn't really have a 'big' part in the movie, but in amongst all the attractive female characters from that movie, I took particular notice of her (a lot like how in A Knight's Tale Heath Ledger's character is so focused on Shannyn Sossamon's Jocelyn character, meanwhile Laura Fraser's awesome blacksmith character, Kate, is right there. I was all about her in that movie (and Jocelyn's handmaiden, Christina, played by Bérénice Bejo - pre- The Artist...a movie which I *still* haven't seen, but want to at some point. Her character in the movie had even less screentime/focus than Mandella in this movie, I think...but I still noticed her). Yeah I too love this movie and am not ashamed to say so haha. Its just such a really good teen comedy that introduced us to Heath Ledger . Also it was really funny too . I agree completely. This and A Knight's Tale (2001) are two Heath Ledger movies that I actually really enjoy and have watched multiple times. I just find them really good teen films, like you said. Though I was aware of Heath Ledger before them, as he appeared in a TV series here in Australia called Sweat. He also did Roar - though I never watched that. There are just so many wonderful/funny/actually really effective emotional moments in 10 Things I Hate About You. Other films attempted to capture that special something that made the film work so well, but I don't think many of them found the great chemistry which existed between Ledger and Stiles.

Recall it being an above average teen comedy, a genre I usually don't like much at all.

Many people have debated on whether THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is sexist or not. While I did mind that aspect, I still would've liked the movie had it been more honest. You see, almost every scene where PETRUCHIO (the tamer) is a jerk to KATHARINA (the shrew) is meant to be funny, but it's so mean-spirited that it feels like the movie should've been a drama. If I take into consideration other William Shakespeare adaptations of the time (including another one that Franco Zeffirelli directed (and that I did like)), there's nothing memorable here. I don't mind it when adaptations of plays omit elements but, here, the omissions caused plot holes. 3/10 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU 8/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
