"The end is nigh! The death of cinema is upon us!"...or that's what I expect certain publications or personalities to gripe and moan about.

How many comedies and horror movies are being released this year? Thrice as many comedies and probably twice as many horror films. But hey there, stick to the narrative will ya? Superheroes are a signal of a dead culture.

Simon Pegg: ‘Superhero films are dumbing down cinema’
It is a kind of dumbing down, in a way, because it’s taking our focus away from real-world issues. Films used to be about challenging, emotional journeys or moral questions that might make you walk away and re-evaluate how you felt about … whatever. Now we’re walking out of the cinema really not thinking about anything, other than the fact that the Hulk just had a fight with a robot.”

I am not asking for super hero movies to be factual scientifically, but put maybe just 5% of science in there, just ONE thing that can at least be PLAUSIBLE. James Cameron and Chris Nolan at least TRY in this respect.

I am not sure "Glass" should count as a super-hero movie...
I might give "Shazam", "Hellboy", "Joker" and "Spawn" a miss. The others I will certainly be watching on the big screen.

The only one I will watch for certain:
X-Men: Dark Phoenix
Maybe, maybe: Hellboy and Avengers, albeit Avengers: I guess this movie will most likely devalue the last one, in case that everything will be revered, if death will be reversed, and once more decision and events have no consequences and thus meaning.
I fear this movie will become the epitome why superhero as genre is culturally worthless.

I am not sure "Glass" should count as a super-hero movie... It's about characters with superpowers who liken themselves to comic book superheroes and villains. I'd certainly call it one. --- Damn, a new Spider-Man already? I'm definitely interested in Glass, Joker, the two X films, and Shazam. And I'll see the MCU movies since I've already invested this much time in them.

I guess? If? Did people actually think anything in IW would stick? Is that why it's so overrated? Sh*t, another Spider-Man movie is coming out three months after Endgame.

I think super hero movies will continue, but the quality will be less and less with just ongoing reboots and sequels unless they come up with something fresh. How many times can they reinvent the wheel? The only one I'm interested in this year is End Game. I agree with the post above that Glass isn't really in the genre. I will for sure see that one.

Unlike a western, a superhero story has no suspense because the characters are not only super-powered but immortal. No one really can relate to them. It's a fantasy without boundaries.
And serial stories are not as satisfying as a one shot story.
The impact of Treasure of the Sierra Madre or Moby Dick is that it is one story--not volume 1 in a 12 volume series (with a prequel series coming after it).
The other side of it is that the big corporations fill up all the media space with their promotions of these few franchise superhero films--telling us that Infinity War or Logan or Star Wars 10 is important and special--the audiences no longer make the decisions.

With the prevalence of social media we are constantly being inundated with sociopolitical "food for thought." Superhero films are fun, and the premise of the fight for good vs.evil is something most cultures can relate, which is why these films do so well world-wide.
