Hello, long time lurker here. Since they are closing down the imdb message boards, I have decided to post and show my support for a separate Buffy/Angel forum. Yes, despite the shows being off the air for nearly 20 years, this fandom is very active and I really enjoy reading all the discussion fans have. Since I am new, is this the way to ask for/suggest a separate forum for Buffy/Angel? do I need to do something else to help? Let me know. I will also post in the created Buffy/Angel thread.

Okay, this is really weird. What are you people talking about?

We're starting to become one of the larger non-general chatter/site-related threads on this forum (3 pages so far) and we're bigger than some of the fandoms who have their own sections. We've also picked up several people who weren't regulars on the IMDb board already. imdb2.freeforums.net/thread/205/buffy-angel-threadAlas, no movement on getting a section for us yet. I'm sorry for the delayed response. I don't know much about Buffy. Where would the forum go and what should it be called? Should there be subforums? Just tell me how it should be and I'll make it happen.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel: the Series" would be the long titles ("the Series" isn't in the main titles, so much as a marketing and fan tool for differentiating between show, character and episode). 1997-2003 and 1999-2004 if you want to know the years.
Another option would be "the Jossverse" (the works of Joss Whedon, which include Buffy, Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Dollhouse, The Avengers and more), or in a more limited category, "the Buffyverse".
The fandom isn't really split between shows and a combined section is fine, seeing as many of the characters were on both shows, there are lots of crossovers and discussion crosses between them a lot. You could do subsections, but there aren't a lot of discussions that stick to one show. It was that way on the IMDb forum where we just defaulted to the Buffy side, even when the discussion was more about Angel (which was still active, too).
Thank you for your attention.

I think Jossverse/whedonverse would be better.

I think if we went with Jossverse, then I'd have to do a Learverse, a Kubrickverse, a Burtonverse, a Tarantinoverse, a Hitchcockverse, a Spielbergverse, a Lynchverse and so forth. Would it not suffice to create a Buffy the Vampire Slayer board with subforums for the spinoffs if necessary?

No, please don't make Angel a mere subsection unless Buffy and Angel both have a separated area (not really necessary). It's completely the same fandom and universe.
Firefly/Serenity also has a notable fan subculture known as the Browncoats, F.Y.I. Granted, our bunch are definitely on the Buffy/Angel side of things (the Buffyverse), rather than of the Browncoat faction. But, no doubt, The Avengers belongs more in the Marvel section (it's not Joss' creation like the others).
Angel is not separate from Buffy and it's not treated as lesser or ignored. It's a bit different than some other spinoffs where the main show and spinoff are barely connected (it's not like Happy Days spawning a lot of backdoor pilots like Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy that weren't spinning off long-running characters) or the spinoff is a mere footnote that nobody pays attention to or remembers existed. The sizable cast basically split in half after season 3, so a large amount of characters actually told their stories across both shows. These two shows had 144 and 110 episodes apiece. Let us have the main part of our section be a combined one for both shows, because it will be used that way even if you intend it to be for the main show.
And I wouldn't be averse either to making the Star Wars board into a Lucasfilm one so that you could also discuss, say, Indiana Jones and American Graffiti within it. Indy is also a notable franchise that spans movies, a television series, Disney theme park attractions, books, comics, cosplayers, etc... Likewise, Doctor Who could do well to have sections for Torchwood (which very much has its own fandom), The Sarah Jane Adventures and Class (though this one is less connected than the other two).
The situations with Captain Jack Harkness (Torchwood) and Sarah Jane Smith (K-9 & Company and The Sarah Jane Adventures) are most comparable to the situation where Angel, Cordy, Wesley, Faith, Spike, Darla, Drusilla, Harmony, etc... all started off on Buffy, but ended up spending significant amounts of their arcs on Angel. There were also several major crossover events spanning two hours where the start of a storyline would start on one show and finish on the other. In fact, the deus ex machina that saves the day in Buffy's series finale came from a storyline on Angel. A person who watches one or the other can understand them just fine, but they're going to be missing a lot and some references won't be completely understood. Star Trek, on the other hand, did bring back, say, Spock to later incarnations of the show, but the casts were otherwise very, very separate and brand new crews. This is not the case with Doctor Who's and Buffy's spinoffs.
Unlike the other properties you mentioned, there is a lot more connection with these fandoms. And most importantly, the ones I've mentioned have real fan cultures for multiple works that are a lot more than just having a writer or director in common (though Burton's works do star pretty much the same people--LOL).

NileQT87, better categorization will be needed as more forums are created for specific shows, but for now I made a Buffy board here and moved your thread into it. I hope that will do, at least temporarily.
