I have not enjoyed most horror films since the year 2000. I just checked my ratings at IMDb, and if we are talking stratight-up horror (not horror comedy), my ratings max out at a 7 for a bunch of films. Of those, I think I'll go with Cold Prey 2 being my favorite of the last 17 years.
Technically, Maniac (2012) gets the top rating with an 8, but although I recognize that film as being well made, I also find it difficult to watch. I wouldn't count it as a favorite.
I would also give a nod to My Super Psycho Sweet 16 (2009) as a standout entry, but that is a TV movie. It's a lot of fun, though, and I enjoy the characters a lot.

It's too hard to choose only one movie from 17 years time span.

If I had to choose just one, I'd probably opt for Wolf Creek (2005). It's the most frightening film made this side of 2000 I've yet seen.

Tough choice between "It Follows" and "The Descent" for me...though there have been a lot of indie/low-budget horror movies post-2000 that have been very impressive. Crossing my fingers for a full on horror resurgence! Looks like cheap jump scares may be on their way out...I'm all about that.

Tie between The Others and The Conjuring. I know tastes differ but how can you put the average Conjuring in the same league as the awesome The Others The Others would be one of my choices and Let the Right one in. Orphan I liked a lot too.

It helps that I saw each at different drive-ins 12 years apart. Seeing a horror movie at a drive- in enhances its atmosphere.
