What is a head coaches responsibility other than being a 'face' of authority on the field.
So....
An Offensive Coordinator runs the offense.
A Defensive Coordinator runs the defense.
We have Special Teams Coaches.
A QB coach, WR Coach, RB Coach...........
I'm lost.
What's this guys role?
To smile on camera with a clipboard and pen in his hand?

It varies greatly depending on the coach. Some head coaches are more hands on and others trust their coordinators. Do you have any particular coaches in mind?

They're like company managers, I suspect. They may not do the actual work, but they tell the coordinaters what they want.
During the week, the head coach may even help design the offensive and/or defensive plays, then let the coordinators choose which plays to run during the actual game.
Also, when problems arise with the offense, defense, special teams, etc, it's ultimately the HC's responsibility to fix it.

First call, last call, on every single aspect.  Every single play goes through them, they have hand & final say every single time. They gameplan so the OC & DC work around that vision/balance/strategy/etc. |
