Of the 16 films on your list I have seen, I agree with 15 of them.

Lawrence of Arabia (1962) The first time I ever had a favorite movie, this was it. 6. The Snake Pit (1947) 7.The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings (2001) 8.A Room with a view (1985) Remove from list 9.Metropolis (1927) 10.The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) This would be #3 on my list 11.Manhattan Melodrama (1934) Remove from list 'til I get a chance to see it 12. Splendor in the Grass (1961) 13. Dark Victory (1939) 14.Gandhi (1982) 15.Sunrise (1927) Remove from list 'til I get a chance to see it. 16.Broken Blossoms (1919) Remove from list 'til I get a chance to see it. 17. Shadow of a Doubt (1943) 18. Der Untergang (2004) Remove from list 'til I get a chance to see it. 19. Les Vampires (1915) Remove from list 'til I get a chance to see it. 20. It Happened One Night (1934) Colbert's Imitation of Life would come next, if this was my list. 21. Star Wars: Episode V- The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Remove from list 22. Of Human Bondage (1934) 23. How the West Was Won (1962) 24. Kingdom of Heaven (2005) This would rank higher on my list -- at least #10 25.Andre Rublev(1966) Remove from list. Have not seen it, but it does not pique my curiosity If this was my list other movies I'd have to add to the list include: Sophie's Choice (1982); The King and I (1956); and Brainstorm (1983)

Most of them are good movies but only a handful are among my personal favorites.
Gone with the Wind doesn't even make my top 750 favorite movies. It's a good movie for sure but some of the performances aren't very good and the way it ignores the issue of slavery is a bit ridiculous considering it is about the South during the Civil War. The few black people that are even in the movie are show to be perfectly content with their place in society.
1.Gone With The Wind (1939) 2.The Lord of the Rings: Return of The King (2003) My least favorite of the trilogy but still very good. 3.The Godfather Part I (1972) Duh 4.The Godfather Part II (1974) Duh 5. Lawrence of Arabia (1962) I like it but it drags and I didn't think it was as interesting as it could have been. 6. The Snake Pit (1947) - NS 7.The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings (2001) Great stuff and is in my top 100 8.A Room with a view (1985) A bit on the boring side but not bad 9.Metropolis (1927) Yup, in my top 100 10.The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) In my top 100 11.Manhattan Melodrama (1934) - NS 12. Splendor in the Grass (1961) I am a fan and a terrific performance from Wood and Hingle 13. Dark Victory (1939) - Better Davis is terrific in this and it was emotionally gripping movie 14.Gandhi (1982) - Too long but well made, I like it but not among my favorites 15.Sunrise (1927) Beautiful movie and in my top 250 16.Broken Blossoms (1919) - NS 17. Shadow of a Doubt (1943) - I am usually a fan of Hitchcock but this one left me indifferent. I didn't think it was thrilling or interesting 18. Der Untergang (2004) Very good movie 19. Les Vampires (1915) - NS 20. It Happened One Night (1934) It's good 21. Star Wars: Episode V- The Empire Strikes Back (1980) The best of the franchise but not among my all time favorites 22. Of Human Bondage (1934) - Another good Bette Davis movie 23. How the West Was Won (1962) - Blah 24. Kingdom of Heaven (2005) I am one of the people who likes this movie a lot and even likes Orlando Bloom in it. I've seen both versions but the Director's cut is a bit better. 25.Andre Rublev(1966) Some of the greatest cinematography of all time and while the film is good it is my least favorite Tarkovsky movie. Stalker is his masterpiece imo.

I think you need to remember what time the movie was made. I don't see your point. Movies dealt with that kind of hard material back then too. There are certain things that can't be ignored even when taking the year into account. At least for me. It's your list, I was just saying it bothered me and hurt the film. It may not for other people...but I'm not other people.

Nice list. I have seen all but 5 of them and pretty much liked all that I have seen. Nice range of dates and variety of genres.

moviemouthNot to get totally off the track and onto a GWTW debate BUT: "The few black people that are even in the movie are shown to be perfectly content with their place in society." It was a love story with the American Civil War as the setting. It was based on, and pretty faithful to, a Best Selling Novel. It was not a documentary about the evils of slavery in the American South during the Civil War. The slavery issue wasn't the focus or the purpose of the story. Other than that horrible little girl who played Bonnie Blue, I cannot imagine which performances "were not very good". Perhaps it's time to resurrect the GWTW threads.
