My first response to this hiring was underwhelming. It was mostly because of the offense that he put out this season as the Titans OC which was very underwhelming. I also never really gave him much chance in getting the job so I focused more so on the heavy favorites like Josh McDaniels (who I am happy they didn't hire) Pat Fitsgerald (who turned down the interview) and Lincoln Riley (who was the guy I originally wanted). Well it turns out that Matt LaFleur must have really impressed them in the interview. It came out that they jumped on him before he got an offer somewhere else and that Bucs OC Todd Monken was the 2nd choice. McDaniels being the betting favorite must have been misleading or he shit the bed in the interview process. Since he has been hired everything I've read about him has been very uplifting. Now nobody will know if he's a good hire until football games are played so it's all just speculation. Things to like: QB Coach Under Kyle Shanahan when Matt Ryan Won MVP and Went to the Super Bowl OC Under Sean McVay That Reignited Goff's career and brought the Rams back to contenders. He has coached under 2 of the most respected or sought after offensive minds in the game. So you have to think he's learned a thing or two from those experiences. Things not to like: His first time being a play caller was this year with a lackluster Titans team. However I look at it like this, he really didn't have much to work with. We have no clue if Marcus Mariotta is a franchise QB and he was hurt off and on this year. Add to that he didn't have his #1 target in Delanie Walker all year. He did however produce a 7th ranked rushing attack. This bodes well for Aaron Jones. He doesn't have a huge resume to warrant Aaron Rodgers to immediately respect him or follow his lead. Some tweets I found encouraging in regards to this hire. However if this hire doesn't work out, we'll always have Dwight Goodman.

I was always curious as to what exactly LaFleur did in LA. To hear the media tell it, you'd think he just held McVay's clipboard for him while the latter controlled everything about the Rams' offense.
The guy is only four years older than Rodgers. He'll need to earn his respect. I wonder if Rodgers had any say in the hire? I remember last summer he was pouting because they dared to fire the QBs coach without consulting him personally.

Everything I have read/heard is that Rodgers was no way involved in the coaching search. However I'd like to think that he would be excited because Rodgers thought the play calling with McCarthy was stale (which for the love of god it has been for years). LaFleur at least won't bring that same stale play calling with him. He has been able to scheme open receivers which McCarthy hasn't been able to do. LaFleur got Mariota to a career high 68.9 comp % this year with what I'd say is mediocre talent, injured QB included. From what I've read LaFleur is a competitive guy and will challenge Aaron. Here's hoping that Rodgers accepts this. I have my worries considering LaFleur doesn't exactly have a huge resume to command respect. But considering it seems that he blew away the interview I'm thinking that he can win over Aaron and that locker room. If anything, he has the last name of LaFleur and Aaron's favorite movie is Dodgeball. So they should at least have a bit of a connection there. Here's hoping anyways. Could be high risk or high reward.

It's better than recycling some guy who's failed in five other cities.

Could be high risk or high reward. Yeah, I'm kind of skeptical of this myself. First they bring in a Browns coach to run the D-Fence which actually was a losing team compared to when Capers was there. I'm not saying that Dom was better. Just that all of a sudden we have a losing record without him. And now they get a guy who coached a team that did not make it to the playoffs and a team with a barely winning record. We dunno what goes on behind closed doors but I guess they think this guy will be a good fit. We shall see and hopefully he will get us back to another SB and that we can feel better about him than McMoron who should have been gone a long freaking time ago. I dunno. I hope the Pack turns things around and stops giving so many chances to coaches that keep on blowing it year after year. We may have to bend over and take it if this is going to be a rebuilding year but A-Rod does not have as many years left as he used to and that boy deserves at least one more SB ring.

Now that it's becoming the 'thing' to find the next wunderkind (i.e., younger, rather than older) h.c. for your team, I wonder if older coaches are starting to resign themselves to the idea that their future chances for potential head coaching jobs are quickly becoming less and less likely..... SAVE FERRIS

SAVE FERRISThat's pretty much it. Just look at Vic Fangio. I would of thought he'd have gotten more head coaching interviews but nope. Everybody wants the new hotshot young offensive coordinator. I get going for offensive minded head coaches now days because just look at Marcus Mariota. He's about to be on what, his 5th offensive scheme he's going to have to learn? You hire an offensive minded head coach that calls the plays that way you're not having to expect your QB and offensive to have to learn a new scheme when your coordinator gets hired away from you. How many defensive minded head coaches are there in the league right now? Less than 5?

Teams on a bye (like the Patriots) were allowed to be contacted to request interviews. Fangio will get requests now.

I think I saw the Dolphins maybe had a request but he declined or something. 3 jobs already filled and not one of them were seemingly interested in even interviewing him.

Word is McCarthy is holding out for the Jets job. God I hope this happens. Guaranteed Jets futility for the next 3-4 years until he's fired.

What is going on in the AFC East? I know the other 3 teams are insanely incompetent but are they like a fucking cult? Do they just stay there despite the abuse by the Patriots? The only one I understand is Rex Ryan. He had some success against the Patriots. Otherwise it just seems like a game of musical chairs.
