In an homage to Salzmank and his Salzmark Watches Star Wars thread, I decided to live blog my experience watching Superman 1978 for the first time... Lets begin! Feel free to chime in and comment at any time.

Opening titles flying through space.... Someone was obviously inspired by the Star Wars crawl!

Iconic theme by John Williams... Though for me, it's synonymous with Seinfeld. I just keep picturing that epic montage they did before the finale set to this theme.

Opening titles flying through space.... Someone was obviously inspired by the Star Wars crawl! And that soaring John Williams music! The producers, Salkind père et fils, later tried to reproduce this movie, titles and all, just using Santa Claus instead of Superman. It worked out about as well as you’d expect.

Zod! Wait, isn't he the villain in movie two? That's pretty awesome for them to set this up here.
And those spinning circle thingies is a pretty cool effect.

I love the asthetic on Krypton... The ice. The crystals. The glowing suits. It's just really sci fi-ish and it looks great.

It's funny how similar the scenes are to Man of Steel in terms of story points and dialogue. I know it's the same origin story, but... Still. MoS was more of a remake than I thought.
Visually, this is way better. No shaky cam. No weird color timing. No random CGI dragons. The dialogue is better too.

Zod’s by far my favorite part of Superman II, and my only disappointment is that he and his cronies are in the (superior) first movie so briefly. And I like those spinning circles too.

The production values are really good! Great sets. Great design. This prologue is superior to the MoS version in every way.

I almost expected Ewoks to celebrate. The explosion, naturally, reminded me of the Death Star.

Has anyone else heard the story that George Lucas was supposedly in the running for directing this?
