Does anyone know what the official reasoning was for not nominating Aquaman for an FX Oscar?
Seems like a pretty big goof to me. its more than just nice FX, there's some revolutionary stuff in there too. Underwater swimming, underwater hair, animal fx, there's a lot in there...

The Academy is weird? Although I think it’s something about the promotional process or something like that for candidates. I think that’s how The Lone Ranger edged out Pacific Rim for a place at 2013 Oscars.

The Oscars are a joke. The Academy award process is about as scientific as choosing a prom king and queen.

Does anyone know what the official reasoning was for not nominating Aquaman for an FX Oscar? Does it have something to do with the nominations not being out yet?

Does anyone take the Oscars seriously anymore? They've been a joke for a couple of decades now.

because reasons I guess, and they seem to have upset James Wan so much to throw around f-bombs. Understandably. Some of the picture compositions are comparable to painting, especially the trench-dive, it's a tone-poem. The Welcome to Atlantis scene is not bad either especially 3D Imax:
That being said there can only be one, and if the Academy decides that way in good faith or for formal reasons (deadlines) it must be accepted. There is always a bigger fish.

But apparently no, its not even on the list they choose from to round it down to the final actual nominations. I cant find the reason why though.

They didn't campaign for it. Campaigns let the voting members of the Academy know that they should watch something; otherwise, they will skip it given their busy schedules and the enormous glut of other films they are begged to consider. The effects in Aquaman are spectacular but, I wouldn't call them "revolutionary." It's not like they introduced a paradigm shift in the technology itself. In the case of Aquaman, existing technology was used superbly. For what's worth, they deserved recognition for their work for sure.

I read the trades fairly regularly and I didn't see any "for your consideration" ads for Aquaman either digitally or in print. It takes a lot of money to run a campaign and, most studios will abandon it if they don't make a short list or see any possibilty of winning.
