Yet I don’t recall them eating many calzones. Authentic? 🇮🇹 💁♂️

A show that helped spawn the spate of quality TV offerings we have today, a show that is awesome for so many reasons - the character depth, the ever-meandering story, the top notch performances from (almost) everyone and a show that still holds up today after multiple viewings. Love the Sopranos.

Rewatching the pilot now. Going to be my third time watching it through. Beat drama ever.

Let's post clips!!
Sorry for the shitty intro, but I always loved this scene between Tony and Ritchie.
Man, James Gandolfini just owns the role. So imposing, so intimidating, and yet despite the countless despicable acts, he's always the guy the viewer roots for throughout the show, other than a few blips where he really goes beyond the line. Gotta tip your cap the showrunner and writer for pulling that off for as long as they did.

OK, spoilers, duh
The best scene of the series was (probably no clip) after Adrianna told Chris about the FBI running her. He thinks about turning on Tony, going into Witness Protection, then runs out. He stops to get gas in his Range Rover and sees a couple who bear a slight resemblance to him and Ade. They drive a shitty car, look like bums and have fat kids. If he goes into Witness Protection, that's his future. Of course, we know how it played out. Not a word spoken.

Even better was right after when Tony tells Adrianna while on a cell phone Chris tried to commit suicide. When she's in the car with Silvio, you know what's going to happen.

My favorite scene was one of the least "mob oriented" scenes - end of season 4 when Tony and Carm have the big argument. It was one of the best acted, best written scenes in TV history, I'm still mesmerized by it when I watch it (watched the whole series at least six times now).

I might watch this again soon. I have seen it five times, but not for years. Still one of the top five greatest shows of all time IMO. This was the show that started it all. Sure, there were great shows before, but this show showed that the very medium of television could be just a great as movies. Remember that before this show, big stars wouldn't do TV. It was seen as inferior to movies. Think about how much that changed after this. Every major actor wanted their own show.

You at first see Ade in her car, heading south alone. You think "Good for her, she might get away". Then it becomes just a fantasy and she with Sil. Never been a show that was so consistently fantastic in every episode, in every facet. The music. Sure, there was a couple clunker episodes. The one with Johnny Boy's ex, Fran something or other. Yuck. And both the Sopranos kids were irritating as fuck at certain times. But no show can ever hold a candle to it, as far as consistency. Lost painted itself into a corner. Breaking Bad was phenomenal, but the first season wasn't up to the others. The last season of The Wire didn't have the best material. And no show could kill of a character better. Death was a treat on The Sopranos. Pussy, Adrianna, Bobby. Even minor characters. Mustang Sally who got whacked by Bobby Bacala Sr. Fucking epic.

Totally agree, they are both excellent throughout the series but that scene is A+ stuff. Both of them at the top of their game. They have some great fights throughout the entire show, with that one obviously, and I always liked this one too (quality sucks on this vid, sorry):

That Mustang Sally episode is fantastic, dab smack in the middle of a slew of great, and violent, episodes. The death of Ralphie, to me, was one of the most brilliant things they ever did. Sopranos had its share of scumbags but nobody was as deplorable as Ralphie. He was just a vile character, through and through. Yet that one episode, "Whoever Did This" I believe it was called, starts out with his son getting critically injured and the next 20 minutes or so feature Ralphie becoming human. He cries for his son, seemingly yearns for something else in life, complete reverse character assassination. For the first time, you actually feel for him as a character and then boom, he reminds you that he's a completely shitbag and then he's gone a minute later. Just brilliant stuff. That episode floored me the first time I saw it, had me holding my breath for what seemed like days afterwards.

This kind of made me think what's the greatest HBO Original Show of All-Time?
Sopranos Tales From the Crypt The Hitchhiker Dream On Deadwood Carnival
Now I love mob movies - but I also love horror - so I think TFTC and The Hitchhiker can't be so easily dismissed - also - if you've never seen/heard of Dream On? I highly recommend looking it up.
In fact - I think Martin Tupper's life may mirror a lot of ours on here.

Tales From The Crypt, now there's a show. Yeah, there are some shitty episodes, but overall it's among the top horror serials ever made. Some truly excellent episodes throughout. Deadwood and Carnival are both great and under-appreciated.

TFTC was great, there are a few episodes I still remember to this day. Ever see the one where the doctor pranked his friend into thinking he (the friend) was dead and performed a fake autopsy on him? Great stuff. I tried to get into Carnival but I never could do it. Deadwood is still greatly appreciated and they're finally going ahead with the film! The Wire has already been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but we can't talk about the greatest shows in HBO history without mentioning Rome.

That episode floored me the first time I saw it, had me holding my breath for what seemed like days afterwards. From the beginning, Tony liked animals more that people. Tony kills one of his most capable captains because he killed the horse. He risked everything, in the real life Mafia, Tony could have been killed for killing a made man without permission. Tony's love for animals was a great personality trait. Fleshed out his character. Upon reflection, every death in the show was very well done. Chucky Signore (Tony hiding the gun in the fish), Matt Bevilaqua "Because that sugarless motherfucker, it's the last fucking drink you're ever gonna have!". The Canadian that Bobby shot (the bullet rattling in the dryer, what a fucking great touch). Fat Dom (still cracks me up, Silvio smashing him with the Dustbuster), the sound cutting out when Gerry Torciano was shot in front of Silvio, Vito (Phil coming out of the closet, another bit of pure gold).

Not even that I didn't get into it, I just don't think I've ever seen a single minute of it. Heard great things, seemed too expensive to continue. In order to make a show on that scale, you really need it to garner mass appeal, a la Game of Thrones.
