Spinning the news, effecting presidential opinion via Fox and Friends, dog whistling to it's base, and perpetuating any discontent of how things are ran is class warfare isn't important. What truly is important is how the public perceives and honors Comic Book Movies. Edit: Of course with Laura Ingraham's flat out hostility to a teenager, and Tucker Carlson's calling America Dirtier because of immigrants I guess you can't call it dog whistling anymore. |

Do the oscars even need a host? Hell don't even televise it. Just announce the winner and mail them their little trophy. At a minimum they don't need a host. They just do a little opening number and kick it over to presenters. Just start with the first presenters. No host would probably cut 30 min out of the bloated 3+hr run time. I would be happy if they just cancelled them out right, but not televising it would be ok too. We all know they want their circle jerk in plain sight though so I think these two are out of the question. |

Where some see this is Disney trying desperately gain validation for the MCU. Which may be part of the reasoning, I see it mainly as a Network desperately trying not to lose money. Disney is already bleeding money from ESPN. That's why the cost of ESPN to providers keeps going up. They are now starting to bleed money and ratings on ABC.
ABC has no real big event rights anymore. They bet on the Oscars and locked themselves in a 5 year contract. They are on the hook for 4 more years I think. With the massive drop last year, ABC and the Academy is looking for any way to right that ship. The Academy is just as big of a whore for money and ratings as ABC. If ratings drops keep continuing they will be less and less valuable to Hollywood.
I wouldn't be surprised now if they went with all nude cast and presenters for ratings and money. At least that would be more honest. At best the Oscars are on par with strippers, but I think they are more on the lines of prostitutes. May be not the street walking kind. The kind that makes sure you have a nice room and no crabs first.
