Shouldn’t they be in the CENTRAL?

Divisions are all screwed up in sports. You got Oklahoma City in the Western Conference in the NBA. Texas teams in the West in baseball. It's just best not to think too much into it.

The traditional rivalries with the Giants, Eagles and especially the Redskins.
Don't really know if Cowboys-Redskins is that big anymore. Its not Duke-North Carolina or Yankees-Red Sox.

When the NFL did the realignment they tried their best to keep the 4 teams in each division that had the most history/rivalries. That's why when they went down from 5 to 4 teams per division, it was usually the newer expansion teams that got jettisoned.
Still think Indianapolis of a more Northern team and Baltimore as a southern team. On that note, Miami is more of a Southern team than Baltimore so send Miami to the South division and stick Baltimore in the East.

The Ravens inherited the Browns old rivalries with Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. Miami had played the Jets, Patriots and Bills forever. Bills-Dolphins was a big rivalry a few years ago. "Squish the Fish" t shirts were all the rage here.
Yeah I know, Dolphins aren't fish. "Mangle the Mammals" didn't have he same ring I guess.

This is the correct answer. Been calling for realignment of our 4 major sports for eons. But I get the argument you can't destroy the rivalries. There's no other division in all of the majors like NFC East in Football. Saw an interesting post by a poster here a year or so back - would love to read it again - about the possible realignment of baseball which included - Yanks Mets BoSox Phils O's in the same division. I literally wet my pants over that. so i'm for realignment - but not destroying old school rivalries.

When I was a kid in the 70s people obviously didn't know where the fuck Atlanta was.
In baseball, the Braves were in the NL West - - the Braves and Reds should have been in the East and the Cubs and Cardinals in the West.
in football, the Falcons were in the NFC West - - despite being further east than every NFC Central team and Dallas and St Louis in the NFC East.

Jerry Jones wants it that way. Surprised no one mentioned it already.
He wants the big 3 NFC northeastern rivals no matter what. The Cowboys could be relocated to Hawaii, he'd not budge.

Good stuff - but there was a poster who posted an MLB's insider's idea of: Yanks Sox Mets Phils O's in the same division That to me would bring me back to the park -

Shouldn’t they be in the CENTRAL? No. They should be in the Southern Division. They should switch with the Carolina Panthers.

Sports divisions have always been messed up. Back in the 80s for baseball each league only had 2 divisions. The Reds and Braves were in the NL West and the Cardinals were in the East. The White Sox were in the AL West and the Brewers were in the East.
