charzhinoWell right off the bat it was within my Top 187 movies but after my 3rd viewing it bumped up from a 7/10 to a 7-7.5/10 which makes it not much outside of my Top 101 movies because my Top 101 movies are minimum of a 7.5-8/10 and Ex Machina is a step down from that status. it's got a nice mood to the movie which I think helps boost it.

Blade Runner 2049 Inception Mad Max: Fury Road
Not sure if everyone considers Fury Road to be sci-fi. If not, then I'd replace it with something like Gravity, Annihilation or Arrival.

Hell, there is not much beyond three movies worth mentioning so ill just list all Sci-Fi movies worth mentioning in the current decade... 1)Source Code (2011) - 9/10 (my #1 time-travel variation movie straight up) 2)Tron Legacy (2010) - 7.5-8/10 (this is pretty much my #1 PG rated movie (or at least the best PG rated movie in along time as damn near all of the movies worth mentioning in general are either PG-13 or R, pretty much)) 3)Ex Machina (2014-2015) - 7-7.5/10 (this was a 7/10 on my first two viewings but on my 3rd one not long ago (Sep 12th 2018) it went up to a 7-7.5/10 which makes it not much outside of my Top 101 movies) 4)Robot & Frank (2012) 5)Edge of Tomorrow (2014) - 7/10 6)Annihilation (2018) - 6-6.5/10 -)In Time (2011) -)Terminator Genisys (2015)
NOTE: there is more I like but everything above is within my Top 234 movies at the minimum, with the 7's and higher being within my Top 187 movies.
p.s. Annihilation just recently (on Jan 3rd 2019) went up from a 6/10 to a 6-6.5/10 on a re-watch (my 2nd viewing of it total).

Finally watched Annihilation this weekend and was really good. Got me thinking that the 2010's have been a great decade for solid, original and remade sci-fi. And im specifically referring to hard sci-fi and not sci-fi fantasy-action so no comic book movies like Guardians of the Galaxy or Star Wars.
1) Interstellar 10/10 2) Arrival 10/10 3) Edge of Tomorrow 9/10
But there are many honourable mentions. Ex Machina, Annihilation, Midnight Special, Gravity, Snowpiercer, Predestination, Blade Runner 2049, Soure Code, Elysium, The Martian. Why just hard sci-fi? Edge of Tomorrow isn't hard sci-fi btw.

Predestination was awesome! Not a lot of people talk about it. What is Coherence?

I was all set the start naming movies, but then I saw some people's choices and now have no idea what to put down. There's been some really good ones the last 10 years.
It's kind of easy to pick the critically acclaimed on like Interstellar, The Martin, or Arrival. They are all "films" and garnered some degree of the critical praise or working the following amongst the highbrow fan crowd. They are all very well made, but I'm not sure how watchable they are. Good interesting movies, but not something that popped in the Blu-ray player too often.
The Apes trilogy, particularly parts two and three, Ex Machina, Rogue One, Predestination, Blade Runner 2049,Source Code. A few people said Mad Max, which I loved, but I'm not sure if science fiction. There's a lot more to, particularly if we are allowed to select comedies, comic book movies, and horror.Looper is an excellent movie, I'm surprised nobody mentioned that.

Gravity - brilliant breathtaking on 3D, but without that it's still an effective film 8/10 Interstellar - a slow, and sometimes too unbelievable, opening 40 minutes does mar an otherwise excellent film 8/10 The Edge of Tomorrow - no question the most entertaining SF in this decade 10/10 The Martian - a fine film, but one I have no desire whatsoever to watch again 7/10 Star Wars the Force Awakens - even though a retread of New Hope, it does show lots of promise, which had to fully realized 8/10 Blade Runner 2049 - a magnificent looking film, even though the revelations within are sometimes hard to buy, it is a fully realized future world 9/10 Prometheus - a magnificent disaster, it looks great but features characters who are not any smarter than Homer Simpson 6/10 Oblivion - has some great moments, the problem with this film is that someone like Morgan Freeman is phoning it in and that drags it down to a 7/10 Ready Player One - great idea, stunning visuals and a lot of fun, but not as compelling as I had hoped 8/10 Dredd - I dismiss comic book movies except this one, it is future world, true SF and a one of the great films of this decade 10/10
