Predestination was awesome! Not a lot of people talk about it. What is Coherence? It's a low-budgeted gem that's overlooked by most. It's one of those films that compels you to think about the endless ways the story could have ended. Great acting overall but you have to stay focused throughout to understand how the concept of multiple realities applies in the movie.

I've a lot of catching up to do with regards to my 2010s viewings, but for the time being my Top 3 are as follows: 1. Edge of Tomorrow (2014) 2. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) 3. Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Finally watched Annihilation this weekend and was really good. Got me thinking that the 2010's have been a great decade for solid, original and remade sci-fi. And im specifically referring to hard sci-fi and not sci-fi fantasy-action so no comic book movies like Guardians of the Galaxy or Star Wars.
1) Interstellar 10/10 2) Arrival 10/10 3) Edge of Tomorrow 9/10
But there are many honourable mentions. Ex Machina, Annihilation, Midnight Special, Gravity, Snowpiercer, Predestination, Blade Runner 2049, Soure Code, Elysium, The Martian. Why just hard sci-fi? Edge of Tomorrow isn't part sci-fi btw. Hard sci is a completely different genre to others like Sci fi fantasy/comedy/action. The latter are films like Ghostbusters, Guardians of the galaxy, Star Wars, Xmen, Terminator, etc. In other words they dont take the science fiction portion of the story serious enough to be hard sci fi. Their reliance is more on action, humour, fantasy. And most importantly, they are franchise films. So I would redefine hard sci fi for this ranking as original (mostly) sci fi. Most peoples top 3 listed in this thread are original, the likes of Edge of tomorrow, Arrival, Interstellar, Gravity, Inception, Prometheus, Coherence, Source Code, Ex-Machina, The Martian. Something like Blade Runner 2049 is technically a franchise, but the uniqueness of it and the under appreciation for the original leans me to consider it a novel film anyhow.

This is completely irrelevant. You're asking people for their opinion and then putting on these parameters and what they can and can't say, as well as trying to change the definition of words. What do you think you are, a non-binary/conforming kid? Come on, man. And Terminator ignores the science?!

Why do people say that Mad Max: Fury Road is science fiction?

Beyond just okay to me.

I don't think Abrams was the right man for directing Star Trek. His movies rehashed older plots from the TOS/TNG era and I thought they were poorly scripted. Beyond, on the other hand, better captured in the spirit of Star Trek in that it was, at heart, a big budget episode of TOS. I also think that Pine finally nailed Kirk's character on the third outing.

Tough choice but I'll go with Cloud Atlas, Arrival, and Her. There were several ones that I like about as much but that's what I'm sticking with for now.

Inception (best picture of 2010 IMO) Arrival (best picture of 2016 IMO) Blade Runner 2049 (one of best pictures of 2017 IMO)
Ex Machina/Annihilation - honorary tie's
So Villeneuve and Garland have the market cornered this decade, and that's good because they're going to continue doing sci-fi. Villeneuve is working on Dune, and Garland is working on a Halo script.

I don't know anything about your tastes but I can tell you that I was interested in it before I saw it. I would have seen it in theaters but I never found the right time. I gave it an 8 since even though I really like a lot of sci fi from this era there's nothing that I'd say that I love, like The Thing or The Day The Earth Stood Still. I will say that the movie is pretty dense and if you're not in the mood for a movie that is overloaded with characters and inter-story connections then you might want to watch something else.
