Anyone watch? Very very impressive start. Bears no resemblance to Season 2, a lot to Season 1. Re investigating a heinous crime in the rural South. I thought there was more meat on this than Season One. S1 was very good but it seemed at times to fall in love with the leads too much. "Yeah, we have a murder mystery, but check it out, we have Matthew McConaghey and Woody Harrelson!"
They could fuck it up. Ben done before.

Yes, very enjoyable so far. Ali is impressive - apart from his constant mumbling!

Matthew McConaghey and Woody Harrelson are both Executive Producers on this one.
A little too much like Season 1. Even those dolls, or something just like 'em, were in Season 1.
I'm most impressed by seeing Stephen Dorf as a middle aged man, he wasn't in any of the commercials and he seems to fit real well.
Season 1 was a bit anticlimactic in it's ending to me. I hope they've got something better here.

I find Rust Cohle the greatest TV character of All-Time
Smart, torn, broken, fights inner demons - but has a heart and a career - suffers through self doubt and tries to struggle through life with depression (the character labels it pessimism - really don't see that though - just a guy who continues to ask questions and doesn't fully understand the meaning of life - which in turn causes him to turtle up at times and go into a shell.
Was sort of wishing they were going for what many were predicting (i.e. that Harrelson and McConaghey were the same guy) - felt a little left down by the final - but found the 1st Season brilliant - completey forgot about it when mentioned the greatest HBO shows up All-time in Sopranos post.

I never watched any of True Detective. Everyone says it's great, and I'm sure it is, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I always intended to, but there are just so many god damn shows out there.
But I understand that Jeremy Saulnier is involved in this season, so I may finally prioritize watching the previous ones and catch up, even though I know they aren't connected. But I'm a fan of that guy's stuff, and that's a good enough reason as any.

Agreed about Rust. Season one of TD is the best season of a TV show I've ever seen.

The Game of Thrones teaser was good too. April 14th!

I see that HBO is working on a prequel. It will be hard to match the original but there is hope. I am currently doing a rewatch in preparation. Currently I'm on season 2. Need to get the other 53 episodes done in 3 months.

I's like to see the last two books but that's not going to happen.

Anyone notice how much Stephen Dorf looks like Dennis Quaid?

On a side note, having a guy sitting there reading the phone book for ten episodes would have been better than the travesty called "season 2." It was dreadful.

For those of you watching season 3, do I need to see season 2 in order to fully understand 3, or is each season a self contained story? Loved season 1.
