Herzog and Peckinpah.... I think. It would take a director like Herzog to control the likes of Kinski. I'm very surprised that one or both of them didn't end up dead. I haven't seen that photo before, but looks like it's when he was making Fitzcarraldo. Yeah, the other one is Peckinpah. I believe it's from the set of the Getaway.

gadolinium I've obviously been living in a cave but who are the guys in your pictures that are not steve McQ ? Werner Herzog and Sam Peckinpah. I apologize for not naming them. I thought there was no need to do so, at least not on a site populated by people who live and breathe cinema. My mistake. I'll try to do better next time. Once again - I apologize.

I think it was Judy Davis. He occasionally quarrelled with Alec Guinness as well.

gadolinium No need to apologize for anything. Some of the folks, I know by name but have never seen a picture of. Thanks for putting a face to the name. Herzog is the one with the boat, right ? Speaking only for myself, I don't "live and breath cinema" BUT I do like movies.

politicidal It was more than "tyranny" with Ford though. The stories of what he did to people have been told often and by many who knew him. It was way more than mere "bullying" and "being the boss" and yet somehow he managed those wonderful, often light-hearted, films. The Quiet Man is one of my favorite films ever but having read what he put Maureen O'Hara through, I found it difficult to enjoy it this year in the way I used to. Yet she worked with him again on THE LONG, GRAY LINE, which, IMO, contains Ty Power's finest performance. Ol' "Pappy" could get blood out of a turnip!
