Looks as low stakes as Homecoming was. Which is a nice change of pace. Not every cbm needs to have universe-ending consequences.

What kind of movie are we talking about here? Far From Home. I won't be surprised if all the Elementals (the water dude, the sand man, the fire demon, etc.) combine together Voltron style to become "Super-Mega-Dyno-Elemental"!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So basically FFH is a copy of The Last Airbender?

we do not know when this takes place it could be before or after Endgame, if its after Endgame Tony Stark may not be alive. "delete* You're getting your titles mixed up. I believe what you wanted to say was after Infinity War (not Endgame), Tony is alive but Peter is dust. If before Infinity War (again not Endgame) then Tony would still be alive. However, remember that Nick Fury is laying low, as he's supposed to be dead. In fact I don't recall him directly asking any Avenger for help since TWS. Might be the reason he decided to approach an individual who wasn't a full fledged Avenger yet. And are you insinuating that anyone who works with a minor is now somehow a pedophile?

And are you insinuating that anyone who works with a minor is now somehow a pedophile? The FBI would categorize a 70-year old man who sneaks into the hotel room of 2 high school kids and waits for them to come back as someone who behaves like a creepy pedophile.

DC-Fan easy there. Turn down the volume. I'm just discussing the trailer and the characters in the movie. I didn't attack or insult anyone on this forum.

I'm not sure how it's actually going to play out but it's going to be ridiculous if Spider-Man shows up in every city Peter is visiting and his friends don't figure it out. It was dumb enough in Homecoming. "Hey Peter, where have you been all day on our class trip to Washington? Also, did you see Spider-Man save us today?" I'm pretty sure his secret identity won't last long. I mean, both his bestfriend and aunt already know his secret within the first movie. It won't be long before he ditches it completely same way the rest of the MCU ditched their secret identities. It's just not feasible in this day and age. I hope that's the case, and they can move on from high school after this film. Two high school movies are enough, let's do something else with this character.

Weird.
I'm not digging the arc where Spiderman and Aunt May are in cahoots. That's weird. The trailer didn't pick up for me until Samuel L Jackson showed up, then it started looking like a movie I could watch. Then Jake Gyllenhaal (who I really like) showed up and made the trailer weird again.
Lets just say this movie has a lot of explaining to do, for which I am game.

The Ratcheting of threats unchecked is like throwing pumped up monsters in D&D at the Players. Yeah I'm going to talk about D&D. Some have shown interest in it. So I am going to explain my problem with ever building threats via DM'ing/Story Telling.
First my group of players are:
7th level Elvish Bard 5th/3rd human Fighter/Cleric training for the Prestige Class War Priest 9th level Half-Orc Barbarian 6th level Half-Elf Rogue
Right now they are in that in between period between middle to entry into the Prestige Classes. They have played long enough with their character to fully invest in them. They have their niche carved out in the group. They've gotten comfortable enough to RP freely. In the hack and slash aspects, they can deal out lots of damage and take a hit. They are starting to get to the good spells, feats and abilities.
The problem occurs with random encounters. Each day traveling there is 3 chances to have a random encounter. For each day you roll 3 d20's. If it's a very calm land, and one dice hits 20 then there is an encounter. In more hostile areas I've gone as low as 17 and above is encounter. Each d20 represents a time of day. Morning to evening, Evening to Dusk, Dusk to Morning. (if you roll a 1 it rains, snows or dust storm. If you hit 1's 2 times in a day or consecutively the storm adds 1d4 days to your travel.)
When planning the big bads of the Campaign. I know everything about them. Weapons, Armor, Spells, Magic Items, Motivation, Fears, Plans, friends, enemies, past heart aches etc. I know the same thing about the planned Lts. and other NPCs. Basically if it was planned I know pretty much everything you can know about the character. Also if/when defeated i know exactly what my players will get and not get. Per the story I know if they will fight on and die or retreat, etc.
We've built a random encounter chart and have been refining it since 1996. I learned early everything shouldn't be planned out. Having random encounters keeps me, the DM, on my toes and you, the players on yours. Some times I can seamless integrate a random encounter with the story I've got going on. Sometimes not. So on each random encounter I have to make it interesting through RP and just plain stats/game mechanics. They are at the point now if a band of Ogres, Orcs, Trolls, Zombies, Whites, Wraiths, Plague Rats, and Shade show up as the base model from The Monster Manual, the party will rip through them like tissue paper. I encourage and welcome Roll Played solutions to the encounters, but I understand part of the fun is to hack and slash every once in a while. So what I end up doing is making elevated creatures.
Instead of Ogre: HP 45 AC 18 2 attacks at +3/+1 with +8 to damage
I have Hulking Ogres (what I call them) HP 95 AC 22 3 attack every 2 rounds and fighting with 2 weapons. +6/+2 with +10 damage
That's a little harder to fight than a band of the first ones.
The draw back? To get their AC to 22 there has to be some kind of valuables there. Hulking Ogre gets +5 for racial bonus, usually wearing Studded/Banded Leather another +2 or +3. As they aren't your typical Ogre, I give them an AC bonus for rising up in the ranks. Usually +2. That gives us 10+5+3+2=20. I have to make up 2pts of AC. I usually put a charge or 2 on the Banded Leather or put a ring of protection on him. Now I just introduced 2 magic items I didn't plan on to. Which the party can sell gaining wealth pretty fast or use them making them fiercer/powerful, which leads to me pumping up the encounters more, which leads to more magic/items, which makes the party fiercer/powerful, so the creatures/monsters have to be pushed more. Ad Nauseam. Which has lead me to give out more XP for the RP solution instead of the hack and slash. It tamps down the cycle a bit, but never completely puts it out. I've ran this campaign on and off for 2 years. In last 5 sessions we've only had 2 battles. Lot of dungeon work, riddles, intimidation, torture, etc etc. That's also a change of pace. I like throwing in cerebral games, maps and mazes, traps etc.
Marvel Pulling back and lowering the stakes avoids my Ogre Problem in the MCU. If they keep upping the stakes each villain then they undo what they already produced. And they'll have to keep doing that to retain interest if they don't reign it in every once in a while. X is the most powerful man in the cosmos, then have someone beat him. Now Y is the most powerful being in the universe. The Bad guy just dusted half the Universe? Well this guy wants to destroy all of the Infinite number of Multiverses. And now they are in peril. Marvel Studios coming back with small in scope movies is like my players using RP to stop the cycle of ever increasing stakes. That was a long drawn out way to put it, but my mind went directly to random d&d encounters when I read comments about stakes.
On a side note, the Bard is starting to figure out that the dude who hired her is fishy. The Barbarian don't care as long as he can break things, the WarPriest is caught up trying to stop the multitudes of death in the streets at night. A couple of clerics and the War Priest go out patrolling, but they always seem to be 5 minutes too late. Usually they can find body parts, rags, or other evidence of a kill, but no full bodies. And the Hue and Cry for those missing, presumed dead, gets longer and longer. They don't know it yet, but each day the dead from the street urchins and undesirables makes the undead army to the west gain in number. The War Priest and Rogue just got a huge f'ing clue about who's funding the gangs thus the deaths, but the Players haven't figured it out yet. (I've been dropping hints that the Human Shire-Reeve and his Elvish Wife are a loooot older than they appear to be. They found a wood carving of the Shire-Reeve dated back 2200 years.)

Looks lame. 1. Why the fuck would Aunt May allow her under-age nephew wear a costume and go around being a vigilante fighting against dangerous criminals? 2. Why the fuck does Nick Fury need to recruit a high school teenager? Doesn't he have Tony Stark's phone number? 3. Spider-Man shows up in New York (when Peter is there), shows up at the Washington Monument (when Peter is in D.C. but conspicuously absent from the Academic Decathlon's field trip to the Washington Monument), and now shows up in Europe (when Peter is on vacation with other kids from his school). Why the fuck doesn't "MJ" or any of the other kids from his school make the connection that Peter is Spider-Man? 4. Since when does the US Department of State hand out passports that don't have the year for the Date of Birth, Date of Issue, and Date of Expiration? Obviously, the moron Director is trying to avoid another "8 Years Later" fiasco by not putting the Years on Peter's passport. you're a DC fanboy who takes no issue with Superman using the guise of Clark Kent with just a pair of glasses. There have been many occasions when Martian Manhunter has taken the form of either Clark Kent or Superman and appeared in the same place and time as Clark Kent/Superman. Superman also has used robots to appear at the same place and time to throw suspicion off. But Peter doesn't have any robots or anyone to stand in for him. Ned is too fat to pass as Spider-Man.

I don't know if you meant this as a good thing or bad thing. In my mind it's a good thing. If they keep ratcheting up the stakes then it will get real ridiculous real quick. I meant is as a bad thing. Film just looks incredibly by the numbers. Peter goes on vacation to Europe with his buddies. Feel good tone and upbeat, teen comedy music. Meets Nick Fury, tone and music becomes slightly more ominous. And whats the narration Fury and Happy say? "You have gifts Parker. But youve got a job to do. Are you going to step up or not?" "Your all alone. Your friends are in trouble. What are you gonna do about it?" That's it? Thats the apparent conflict Peter has to face? In which case its glaringly predictable. Goes to Europe, friends get kidnapped by Mysterio, Parker saves them after a pep talk by Happy and Fury. Parker kisses "MJ". No deaths, no struggle, no stakes. Dont need to see him saving cities. Any form of inner challenges he has to face would suffice as personal stakes. Like Raimis Spiderman of juggling multiple responsibilities and fighting to live up to Uncle Bens last words. Andrew Garfields discovering the truth of the traumatic death of his parents or finding balance of his heroism and Gwen Stacy, which ends up costing him everything. Into the Spiderverse Morales trying to find acceptance from his father. Whats Homecoming and Far From Home offered against that? Parker trying to impress Happy Hogan to get a spot on the Avengers team. And now holidaying it up in Europe, saving his friends from some corny looking villains. Yawn. Please Sony, take back the creative ownership we need a Spiderman with substance. Not a Disneyfied joker like Tom Holland.
