I would do what I thought they would do at first, in the first sequel, and was surprised they didn't.
Being in that sleep state, I thought Ripley would be awakened a hundred thousand years later, and Natural selection would have humans as an obvious inferior species, and the cats would be speaking, walking on two legs, and be the only animals that could defeat the alien one on one.
They would all be large, and Ripley's cat would be like a pygmy to them. They'd be surprised that the human pet of the cat was dominant and speaking.
Each phenotype of cat would have a particular character that went with him or her. It would coincide much with today's phenotypes. Siamese cats would be the more heartless and cruel ones, and the only ones that hated humans. The black cats would be scared of everything. The white cats would be angelic. The tuxedo cats would be comical types, naive and loving. The calico ones would be a bit conceited, but basically good.
They'd do an operation to make Ripley's cat, can't think of his name just now, to have an improved brain, and he'd be able to talk. Ripley would be in a shelter with other humans, and the Siamese leaders would try to give all humans to the aliens.
The first cat that finds Ripley would easily chase off the alien that might try to prey on Ripley. It would be best to have a comic meeting with a tuxedo cat at first. Later, a white cat would befriend Ripley, and try to help her and her fellow human companions she is caged with.
Evolved dogs would visit, and they'd be more even matches with the aliens. They would have good relations with all but the leader Siamese cats. A few Siamese break away from the cruel ones in leadership, and help in a big war against an army of aliens.

I honestly don't see much point in making another one at this stage. The 1979 and 1986 films are masterpieces - one in the realm of horror and the other in the realm of action. Nothing that came after was in the same league.

A couple of aliens come to earth. Only they encounter this guy: Who gets them stoned and they all just sit around and chill. The end.
