Black Widow could become the first Marvel movie to receive an R-rating – and fans aren’t quite sure how to feel about it. Scarlett Johansson will appear in her first standalone movie as the beloved superheroine in 2020 and Marvel Studios are reportedly toying with the option of making future projects in Phase 4 rated-R, with Black Widow potentially kick-starting the trend. Minds. Blown. Teasing the possibility, The Hashtag Show’s Charles Murphy, tweeted: ‘When I first heard they were developing the Black Widow film, I also heard they were discussing whether or not to make it Marvel Studios first R-rated film. ‘I’m not saying it will be fore sure (no way to know what they will settle on at this point), but they have recently said that R-rated MCU films ARE a possibility, so it is a possibility. So if BW ends up R-rated don’t be shocked.’ It would mean that millions of young children who love the superheroine wouldn’t be able to watch the movie in cinemas. Surely this would hurt Marvel’s box office sales? It would certainly be a bold move for Marvel and fans are currently debating whether they’re ready for more nudity, profanity and a darker turn in the MCU. Movie-goers who are down for the switch-up seem to agree that the R-rating would allow for the gritty backstory of Black Widow’s character to be given justice. However, others feel the adult rating would isolate millions of Marvel’s devoted fans. While it would be a first for Marvel, many other superhero movies have received an R-rating, including Deadpool 2, while the upcoming Suicide Squad spin-off Birds Of Prey and Joker movies are also expected to receive the adult certificate. metro.co.uk/2019/01/16/marvel-fans-divided-black-widow-considered-r-rating-will-not-get-money-8351347/So what is your opinion about Black Widow may get an R-Rating? Also will you even watch a Black Widow movie?

I think they should at least give it a try. To be honest Scarjo's BW is already a bit too bland so I think it could use the edginess an R rating would bring.

Disney won't release an r rated mcu film That's too bad, but also not. If they keep it clean, then the Deadpool movies are that much nicer a palette cleanser. It doesn't matter how good the MCU movies are; variety will always be the spice of life.

1 question, would this mean we get boobies? hehehe. I think this could work, BW would be a good way to go more Netflix like in the movies, she doesn't have powers, next gen armour, flight suit or shrinking abilities, she's just a highly skilled spy that can handle herself so maybe a little more edge and violence could benefit the film and let it stand out in the MCU. I could see this not hurting the box office either, and plus BW isn't exactly a huge merch machine you will lose out selling to kids for this film, it wouldn't be a billion $ movie either and we have seen that R rated cbm's can still draw Ant Man & Was money so why not do something with the film to test the waters and let it stand out?

Disney won't release an r rated mcu film Miramax was owned by Disney from 1993 to 2010. In 1994, Miramax released... Pulp Fiction. Many R rated movies have been released by Disney subsidiaries.

were any of those movies part of a kiddie franchise? Parents see Marvel logo and assume its ok for 5 year olds.

I'd be surprised if this movie even gets made at all. Seems 5 years too late to me.

Parents see Marvel logo and assume its ok for 5 year olds. No they don't. People in MCU movies get shot, stabbed, blown up, and set on fire. They're PG-13. Ultra Violence - OK. Swearing or nudity - not OK. The MPAA is totally weird and always has been.

Not sure why R rating is hated. There's even posters here that have defended the PG-13 rating for Venom.

I don't understand why superhero movies should even be considered for children. Because they crack jokes in-between massive horrors? The superhero world is legitimately terrifying if you put even an ounce of thought into it. Every movie ends with a straight up fucking WAR.

For me, it would depend on what made it R. If it is more about her training, the psychological toll it has taken on her (i.e. like the being chained to the bed thing shown in AGENT CARTER), the violence of say 15yr old girls learning to snap someone's neck with their thighs like she was attempting to do with the Winter Soldier, and having her on the run before she meets Clint - I could totally go with an R-rating.
If they are doing it as an excuse to show her having sex when she's 17 with some 50yr old crime lord, being practically naked for as many scenes as they can contrive, with her gracefully having her boobs hanging out while killing people and looking flawless- count me out on an R-rating BLACK WIDOW movie. I wouldn't even want a PG13 version of that movie.
Should they decide to make it a gritty spy-drama/war-movie (i.e. more like HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER meets TAKEN) where you see the cost on those tortured for information, we see bits of the fire that made Natasha an orphan to begin with, we see her finding out some truth about why her parents were killed in the first place that makes her turn on her Red Room handlers to take them down, which loses their protection so they are the ones who put a bounty on her head and disavow her so that SHIELD finds out about her and sends Clint after her, and we see her rebuilding herself at Clint's side and working for SHIELD as a short little scene near the end- I could go for that whether it's R or PG13.

Yes it is a little curious. There’s no shortage of titles which would suit the R-rating better, so why Black Widow? I do like the idea of BW seducing older generals. It would be remiss to ignore that which would be her typical function, as a seductress. But would that itself neciessitate an R-rating? That could surely be conveyed subtlely. I can only guess that they are struggling to make the film remarkable. Sure she’s a popular character but a BW movie is perhaps considered bland, even with Nick Fury and Winter Soldier and whatever other numerous characters they can cram in there. But again, there’s enough creative potential there to attract an audience.
