For some reason, I enjoy films made in NY at the city's seediest - mid-60s to mid-70s. It provided an atmosphere of decay and corruption.

25th Hour . damn near masterpiece imo and the way Monty (played brilliantly by Edward Norton) ranted about every single demographic of NYC was something else.

In the 1970s there were the gritty NYC movies; Martin Scorsese, Sidney Lumet, Friedkin, superfly, the warriors et.al., whereas by the late 1980s, they developed a much slicker look - fatal attraction, wall street, Ridley Scott's someone to watch over me, sea of love. In their day they looked terrific on the big screen.
