Does that mean it will be like the last two? Actually, like the last three, Spider. Quotes from Oscar Nominated performances. Hoping you'll join in this time.

Hey Spider.
One trick that helps me with contests confined to Oscar nominations.
I keep a tab open to the Wikipedia page Academy Awards and the category. It helps me rule out actors that have won, reminds me of nominated actors and films. I still have to have some sense of the film, and what the character would be likely to say to get the answer posted first, especially with all the good players in the game now.
hope you will give it a whirl!

Yep Marsha, It looks like we use the same tricks. I do that too. Wikipedia is great for this stuff!!! Another tick I use is--I do a lot of 'copy and past' on my answer posts. All you have to do is look at my posts and you will notice that.. Also, I use a variety of "search tools" and keep several tabs open on my desktop at the same time. I that way, I don't have to do so much typing....I love searching for THE answer. I would love to see Spider join in. The fun is in the speed of matching and posting race.

Marsha !!! You're giving away trade secrets. Don't you recall signing the Garth Game Espionage Act Loyalty Oath??? Don't worry Matt, Your games are so different from each other that there IS no one trade secret that will work on all of them. Each game requires different skills, and we generally don't know what's coming down the line next.

You mean we are actually allowed to look thing up ? Now you tell us !
There was one game I saw on the Trivia Board where players were asked to be on their honor and not do research. Not many players at that game though. Too many questions that could not really be answered without tools.

I start the games knocking off the ones I know. If I nail both of those I do light research. Having a list of Oscar noms is not the same as googling tge quote. It's more of an aide- mémoire.
I signed my loyalty oath " Teddy Roosevelt ". CCCHHHAAAAAAAAAARRGE !

I tried doing that too, Bat. But like my Seven Little Garths -- they kept disobeying me!

mattgarthHope this is not out of line to ask: When you are dreaming up these games, does it come out of your obvious vast knowledge of cinema or do you use actual "on paper" books and "www" or just rely on divine inspiration? For research (if that is the case) are books or www the preferred source? These games have GOT to be at least as difficult to make up as they are to answer. Must be kind of hard seeing them completed so quickly but there's only one QM and it takes what appears to be 4-10 rather regular players to figure it all out.

Also, my computer's running really slow. Time to get a new one and I've been putting it off. Good luck to all! Is it running slow just here ? or everywhere ? I keep asking over on Tech Support but it's only happening to a few members and only occasionally and admin says that he hasn't got the problem so he cannot reproduce it and cure it. . I cannot scroll here after a couple of minutes. The pages post slowly. Typing is delayed. Happens only here for me. You too ? <we now return to our regularly scheduled subject> <after I see the reply that is>

Hey, guys, thanks to everyone, but I don't think I can do it. I think it's some kind of right brain/left brain thing with me. But I'll check in to see how everyone else does. I stand in amazement at your abilities. Also, my computer's running really slow. Time to get a new one and I've been putting it off. Good luck to all! Spider- Sure you can do it! I am half blind, trying to do it on an iPad which doesn't let me "cut and Paste" with a horrible hospital WiFi system that knocks me out every half hour with an IV plugged into my right thumb while being drugged on Benadryl. So give it a try. You do get credit for just showing up. My secret is to read the list from the bottom, cause most start at the top. See what looks familiar and jump in

Of course you're not out of line, Bat.
As for books and www -- that's for amateurs!
OK -- yep, I do some research ... but only when the boss is out of the office on a long lunch break.

"I actually had to reboot a couple of times." That's sort of what I have been having to do. Not re-boot the whole computer but exit the web and come back here. Admin says things have to "happen to everyone" before they can be fixed and only a few have mentioned it. I suspect that may be because only a few know that there even is a HELP!! area. I hope that you don't give up on the Garth Games. Heck, all I seem to get is "participation points" but it's fun watching the other kids racing each other to the blackboard via their speedy-Gonzales computers and iPads. spiderwort
