Heads are going to roll.

Trying to imagine the reaction if the identical situation happened and it benefitted the Patriots.

What a debacle. There's talk about the commisioner stepping in and rescinding the result of the game. Heads are going to roll. They are not going to do that. Hopefully during the off season the rules committee will change the rules to do something --- at least during the playoffs --- where New York can step in when an obvious agregious call like yesterday happens and say, "That was an obvious interference and targeting (head to head tackle) penalty. You need to call a penalty." Or the booth can review. Or coaches can challenge. Or instant review. Something. But that call affected the game. If the Saints had gotten that call, the game would have been over. And the Saints would be going to the Super Bowl. They could have kneeled down three times. Run down the clock. And kick a short game winning field goal. Sean Payton stated immediately after the game, the NFL admitted they blew the call. Not only was it interference, it was targeting (head to head tackle). "As you might imagine, Saints coach Sean Payton was beside himself after the game. He told reporters during his postgame press conference that he just got off the phone with the league office and "they blew the call." And not only was the hit on Lewis clear and obvious pass interference, there was also a helmet-to-helmet infraction. Payton said the league told him, "I don't know if there was ever a more obvious pass interference call."www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/rams-vs-saints-final-score-takeaways-l-a-wins-in-ot-to-reach-super-bowl-liii-nfl-admits-blown-call-late/

Forgive my ignorance, as I am not a fan of American Football, but wasn’t there an incident on the other game yesterday where the Boston player seemed to have dropped the ball, the Kansas player grabbed it and then scored a touchdown, only for it to be cancelled after reviews showed that the Boston player hadn’t actually touched the ball?

Scoring plays and turnovers are automatically reviewed. Penalty calls, or lack thereof, are not.

Only some plays are eligible for review. That non-call yesterday (was it interference or targeting?) was not a reviewable call.

I'm not in favor of having penalties/non-penalties reviewable. My God, was anyone watching the end of regulation in the AFC game? No need to see more of referees looking at monitors. There is an arguments for having officials monitoring the games off site. Then radioing to the on field officials when a blatant penalty occurs, like yesterday. The only problem is, what is blatant and what should be called in? You can see a penalty on most plays, a hold here, an illegal move here. I don't think a game completely officated my TV monitor would be good for the game.
For better or for worse, the decisions of the field stand. Goes for Football, baseball, rugby anything. What do we do, give the 1985 World Series to St. Louis? Go back and play the 2001 AFC playoffs again (Tuck Rule), give the 1999 Stanley Cup to the Sabres for Brett Hull's fat fucking foot? Hey, wait a minute...

Just ask the Bears from this year or the Vikings from a couple years ago or the Bills from Super Bowl XXV.

Yep, that bogus roughing the passer penalty against the Chiefs was even worse than the no-call on the PI against the Rams. With the no-call on the PI, the refs didn't see it so they didn't call it. On the bogus roughing the passer penalty against the Chiefs, the refs also didn't see the defender hit Brady's head (since the defender only hit Brady's shoulder and never did hit Brady's head) so the refs shouldn't call a penalty for something they didn't actually see. Yet the refs called a bogus roughing the passer penalty against the Chiefs even though none of the refs actually saw Brady get hit in the head.

Now days, anytime you touch a QB, it's roughing the passer.

And whatever happens from that point on happens.

This is one thing that irks me about football. You could throw a flag on almost EVERY play.
I noticed in this game the officials were letting them play pretty rough the whole game. I wasn't all that surprised that they didn't call pass interference on that play.

To be honest, I'd like to hear from the official that was standing there watching that play as to why he didn't call PI.
Did he think the ball wasn't catchable?
Did he think the ball had already reached an area that made contact alright?
Maybe he felt like it was incidental contact?
Maybe he didn't want to be "that guy" who threw the flag and ended the game right there on a penalty.

If they are not going to call a penalty on that play, they might as well not throw any flags. Because that was blatant and obvious pass interference. He knocked the guy down before the ball even got there.

No, the rule is anytime a defender touches Brady, is roughing the passer. But defender's are allowed to hit the QB of the opposing team playing the Pats, like when a Pats' defender hit Mahomes on the shoulder and no penalty was called but that same hit on Brady later in the game was called roughing the passer.
