To me, Romo was seeing everything Sutton should have been seeing and the defense should have been reacting to, yet NE was successful on all those plays. So the question now is what will KC do on defense to fix this. Rex Ryan's analysis lately hasn't been very good. I think he'd be a mistake. Romo is seeing what’s coming after the formation is already set, at which point it’s too late for Sutton to do anything anyway. Unless Romo is also a time traveller, being able to read the opposing offense wouldn’t really help him as a DC who’s setting formations before the offense has lined up. He has to work with the nose guard or whoever has the headset on defense to react to those plays.

He has to work with the nose guard or whoever has the headset on defense to react to those plays. It's almost certainly not the nose guard. Defensive play callers are essentially always linebackers, and sometimes safeties. You have to be able to see the whole field from your vantage point to make those adjustments and audibles. Also, those sorts of reactions to formations should generally be in assignments that are in place in game planning and not entirely left up to the moment. You defensive signal caller should not need an ear piece to be able to call out safety help on an isolation route.
