Ethan Hawke wins the NY Film Critics Best Actor for "First Reformed", but doesn't get an Oscar Nom? Very, very rare.

Won't you be my Neighbor and Three Identical Strangers not being nominated for best documentary was just tragic. I'm dumbfounded.

Black Panther nominated for Best Picture but not Best Director? Seems they should go hand in hand.

Black Panther nominated for Best Picture but not Best Director? Seems they should go hand in hand. With only 5 slots in every category except Best Picture, several directors are bound to be left out.

Is this going to be the year that a Marvel film wins best Picture?

Surprising? Nothing surprises me anymore with the sh!tsh0w that is the oscars - in a year where the likes of 'Black Panther' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' are seen as 2 of the 8 best films released.
But Joanna Kulig should have been in the best actress category for 'Cold War'. Chloe Zhao should be in best Director category for 'The Rider' 'Leave No Trace' and 'We The Animals' should really have been up for something.
It's gone from a farce award ceremony to a less than credible, cringeworthy joke.

Many people think "snub" simply means "a movie/individual wasn't nominated." However, it actually means "a good movie/individual wasn't nominated while a less deserving one was." BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY and VICE over IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK for Best Picture. VICE over A STAR IS BORN for Best Directing and Best Editing. MARY POPPINS RETURNS over ANNIHILATION, FIRST MAN and A QUIET PLACE for Best Score. CHRISTOPHER ROBIN over ANT-MAN & THE WASP for Best Visual Effects. MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS over BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY for Best Makeup/Hairstyling. Is this going to be the year that a Marvel film wins best Picture? I'm pretty sure a movie has never won Best Picture without winning Best Directing and/or Best Screenplay. BLACK PANTHER isn't nominated for either of them.

I gave up trying to understand the Oscars years ago. Now it's like my horoscope. I don't believe any of it, but I still read it anyway.

The Godfather didn't win Best Director. But it won Best Adapted Screenplay. Nor Chicago for Best Director or Best Adapted Screenplay. Nor Gladiator for Best Director or Best Original Screenplay.

Is this going to be the year that a Marvel film wins best Picture? Nope. CBM will probably need something more in Logan's lane, which was genre but without all the sparkly cgi & cosmos visuals, etc.

Most of the time I have no idea what the best pictures are because I haven’t seen them. But Black Panther? I just don’t see what’s so special about it. Infinity War and Deadpool 2 were both better and in the same genre.

Black Panther nominated for Best Picture but not Best Director? Seems they should go hand in hand. This wasn;t happening automatically when the categories matched. I'm apparently one of the few people that think there is a big difference between direction and overall production.
