Love everything about it. The fact that it didn't become a franchise actually adds to the charm all these years later.

Really like this. Tim Dalton does good villain.....nostalgic feel and Miss Connelly looks impossibly gorgeous.

I have to admit I've never seen this movie in full. I did notice it while I was scrolling thru Disney+ the other night, and thought I might get around to finally watching it.

A movie similar to The Rocketeer that I also enjoyed was The Phantom. It has a similar tone to Rocketeer, with the only downside being the main antagonist is incredibly campy. Billy Zane plays the hero earnestly, but Treat Williams goes so over the top it's ridiculous. Still enjoy the film for what it is, though.

I swear I remember a write up of the film around the time of its release joking about how Connelly only got the part because of her breasts. It may have been a mocking commentary from MAD magazine for all I know, but even still I wonder if you could get away with that as a major publication in 2019?

Given how Disney is putting out a disclaimer on how some older films on their streaming platform may not be culturally "woke" or whatever, I'm honestly surprised the shot which pans down to her cans with W.C. Fields' commenting " doubly-charmed" wasn't removed.

I love the Shadow as a character, I have some of the original collected fiction as well as some of the newer comics. And I like Alec Baldwin. But for whatever reason, that movie doesn't work for me. It's not the worst thing in the world but it's nowhere near the level of The Rocketeer or The Phantom. It's just a stale film. It needed a better script, better direction, better f/x, better characters. I'd definitely be in for a remake, either a period piece or modernized version. But change the generic villains.

The best out of the "quad" fecta of superhero/comic book hero films of the early '90s (Shadow, Phantom, Dick Tracy, and Rocketeer). This is easily the best in my opinion. It got everything right. The lead was probably the only small let down, but he was decent. I saw all of these films in the theater, but was really only blown away by this one (although the Phantom is almost as good, I actually like the over the top Treat Williams). Jennifer Connelly was smotheringly gorgeous. Dark City was the other film where I was just in love with that woman. I used to have the movie poster as well on my wall (wish I still had it), it had a great art deco feel to it.

I get a laugh out of the cartoon Hughes shows depicting Nazi Rocket men taking over America. As if these fuckers wouldn't be immediately blasted out of the sky.

Yeah Williams is a hoot in The Phantom, I just think he's part of the reason that movie isn't as highly regarded as the Rocketeer for example. He's definitely an improvement over the villains in The Shadow.

I went to the cineplex to see thelma and louise. It was booked out, so it was the rocketeer instead. Barely memorable.

They “talked” about a sequel for a while. But I think it’s been reduced to a television show now.

Wasn't Captain America: The First Avenger very similar to this?
