Is anybody else watching either the '81 classic or the '09 remake to mark the occasion? Other than these films and "Valentine" (2001), can you think of other horror films that use the holiday as a plot point?

Usually 'Halloween' is the only holiday horror I'll watch on the actual day. I can't really think of any other "Valentine" related horror films unless you consider 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' one, which I certainly don't.
Speaking of 'Valentine' (2001) though, I really wish they would give that a blu-ray release. I always thought that was one of the better slashers that came after the golden age of such.

I saw the original My Bloody Valentine in early 1981 and remember being MIGHTILY disappointed. The f/x articles in Fangoria promised so much, but just when things got gory, the cameras suddenly pulled away. It wasn't until decades later that I was able to see the restored DVD.
The one thing I noticed about My Bloody Valentine--outside of the Canadian accents--was just how far the town went to celebrate Valentine's day. Everything was decorated, from telephone poles to fire hydrants to garbage cans, you name it. I couldn't imagine any town going that nuts over Valentine's Day.

I believe X-Ray (1982) kicks off with an incident that occurs on Valentine's Day. Other than that, Valentine's Day (2010), which probably is just plain horrific:

I love the original one, the remake is just ok. The only other valentine horror I can think of is Lovers Lane (1999).

Watched the 2009 film on Valentine's Day. It was much better written than I'd expected it to be and not the let-down I'd been fearing. A solid contemporary slasher - 7/10
Have never seen the 1981 film.

The original is one of my favorite slashers of all time. I wish it could have gotten a sequel. The 2009 version is really good too, definitely one of the better remakes out there.

It's very enjoyable. I got the version with seven minutes edited back in and I wasn't disappointed

Canadians don't love Valentine's Day that much. That town was full of horny rednecks, obviously.
