People think it will do less than TLJ now and closer to Rogue One. Because of the backlash it has a huge range of 800m-1.5b.
Domestically it will do fine for 500m+ , but overseas is a big question mark. Personally i'd love this to beat Endgame just to see the Marvel zombies heads explode. But that won't happen without China.

If they cast Jing Wu in a lead role, maybe.

I think so. I would be shocked if it makes less than The Last Jedi. With J.J. Abrams back, a 'safer' director than Rian Johnson, and them now knowing the critisisms of TFA and TLJ, I have a feeling that this will be the best received movie of the sequel trilogy by the general audience and the extreme Star Wars fans. It won't make more than TFA, but I can definitely see it making at least 1.5 billion.

In a post-Solo world though, anything's possible. It may make less money than the animated movie.

I would not be surprised at all if Episode IX grosses less than $1 billion worldwide. China has demonstrated unequivocally that it couldn't care less about Star Wars. And the same is true of many domestic fans after "The Last Jedi". A sizable number of fans are going to actively or passively boycott Episode IX.

It will underperform, too many star Wars movies in the last few years. BUT it can also be big since it is the LAST Star Wars movie heading to theaters, with no more movies planned for the big screen in the foreseeable future.Disney could be tied up with Avatar sequels till 2025. And we know how expensive a JC movie can get!
