...another good one was Broadway Joe Namath...paid $5 for his auto on an 8x10 at a sports show, and he took the time to talk with everyone who visited his table. In contrast, Emmitt Smith was charging $100 per auto at the same show and wouldn't even make eye contact with the fans. Needless to say, I bypassed Smith's table.

So nice:
Billy Campbell Clare Kramer Micky Dolenz Chris Isaak John Davidson Queen Latifah J. August Richards Peter Sarsgaard Steve-O
Some others, while not rude, were more cautious around the public, kept their distance. The only really rude celebrity encounter I can recall was a Canadian comedian pitched a fit in front of me once at the airport.

Many years ago I caddied at a high end country club. Fun job for a high school and college student. We had a pretty famous ex-baseball player from the 50's and 60's who was a golfer and member at the club. He played his whole career in our MLB team and was a long time sportscaster for the games. So he was a super famous local sports celebrity.
The day I caddied for him he was making the obligatory small talk. He asked me if I liked baseball, and I looked at him with a straight face and said "No". Then he asked me if I knew who he was, and I looked at the member tag on his golf bag and read it then told him his name. That was about it for conversation from there on out. I had no idea who he was, obviously.
When the loop was over - he tipped me about 4 times what one would expect, told the golf superintendent some nice things about me, and asked for me on future loops. Other staff members asked how bad of a tip I got, with a concerned look on their faces. When I told them, their response was "Wow, you must have kissed his ass big-time". I just said "Why would I do that?" They were even more amazed because I didn't even know who he was.
Turns out he was known to be super cheap with tipping, and generally seeming to be grumpy. He was just a little sour that his glory days were over, and he was relegated to watching the action on the field and not being a player any longer. After I put this together, every time I saw people interacting with him, whenever they would bring up anything about baseball he would be very clear about one thing. He had nothing to do with what happens on the field or with the team, and he didn't want to talk about it.
I think he also liked me because I wasn't from the rich side of the area like most of the loopies were. It was a cool interaction for me. A lot of occasions at that job turned out best for me when my interactions with important people were just sincere, because I didn't know or care who they were - and they knew that but I was obviously just trying to do a good job. And on the flipside, whenever I tried to know about people and their status - talking too much got me in a bit of trouble.

Apart from the odd, accidental celeb close encounter at venues and in public, I Did quite a bit of film extra work a few years back so inside and outside studio have seen varying levels of approachability, aloofness, invisibility, normality etc. Not saying it's a true reflection of their general character, but this was what I recall was their demeanour to 'extras' and the public.
Friendly, Normal, chatty: Paul Kaye, Andy Serkis, Amanda Burton, Adam Fogerty, Chris Claremont, Ralph Brown Wolf Kahler, Jerry Hall, Dave Gibbons, Bobby Womack, Stan Lee, Howard Chaykin, Warren Mitchell, Vas Blackwood, Buster Bloodvessel, Paul Mccartney
A little Bit Precious Frank Finlay, Leo Sayer, Alison King
A bit Grumpy to Grumpy Murray Walker, David Bellamy, Alan Moore, Bill Sienkiewicz, Pauline Black, David Hemmings.
Rude, Obnoxious, Loutish, Aloof. Vinnie Jones on many occasions over the years. [local chap]
My middle daughter said that Paul Whitehouse, Peter Capaldi and Hugh Laurie are really nice.

Usually they seem neighbourly in person & even more so if you treat them as such - they're probably exhausted being 'on' for ppl 24/7/365, they surely craze normalcy esp. from fans.

I've met quite a few celebrities at conventions and such and all of them were very nice. The only celebrity I ever spent any time with was Carl Weathers. I had the opportunity to work with him on a particular project related to my job. He invited my colleague and myself to his house for a work related meeting and afterwards took us out to dinner at a nice LA restaurant.
Extremely nice guy.

That's cool! Not someone who usually would make a celebrity list but who has been in a ton of things. He made a very good Van Helsing.

From 1987 - 2011 I owned a gift store near some popular colleges which children of celebrities / famous people attended. So I would occasionally get their 'celebrity' parents. I also got celebs who were in town filming a TV Show, movie, or in town for a concert or touring musical.
The best:
Cybil Shepherd - By far, the best. She was filming a movie in my area and stopped in to do Christmas shopping. As I helped her pick out gifts, she was 'gossiping' to me about different celebrities. One thing she told me (which I will never forget) was that 'everyone in Hollywood hates Oprah - but we all kiss her ass to be on her show and promote our projects'. LOL Not sure if she ended up being on her show to promote her TV movie at that time. I happened to have her CD from a few years before (I used to play it often in the store) and asked her to autogrpah it - which she did. When I handed it over to her, she was truly shocked and joked - "You're the guy who bought it! I knew I sold one copy!" I couldn't stop laughing. She was very genuine.
Rob Schneider - He was in town because he was filming one of his movies (2001? 2002?) so he was renting a condo nearby to live in that summer. He used to come in almost every day to 'look around' and occasionally buy stuff. He appreciated that I left him alone (as well as the customers) and let him be by himself (occasionally someone would ask for an autograph). Towards the end of his visit, he told me his friend Adam Sandler was in town for the weekend, and kindly asked me if I wanted to join them for dinner and meet Sandler. Of course, it was my cousin's wedding that same night and had to say 'No'. One of my biggest regrets! I did get an autograph from him, though.
Carly Simon - She was in town promoting her CD at a local radio station. She was very nice, though 'very much out there'; let's hope it was too much cold medication.
Susan Sarandon - Daughter went to the college; very polite and very nice.
Kevin Costner - Daughter went to the college; very polite, though aloof. Liked to come in when the store was 'empty' and chat. Once people would come in, he'd leave quickly before they bothered him.
Danny DeVito - Son or daughter went to the college (can't recall which one); funny in a very drunk way. I don't think he was ever sober visiting the store.
The Worst:
Andy Williams (singer from the 50s - 70s). Absolutely horrible. Very rude to me and my customers, for no reason at all. Was happy when he left the store.
Dominik Dunne (popular author in town for a book signing): As horrible as Andy Williams.
Tommy Tune (Broadway actor from the 60s and 70s) - Again, rude as can be for no reason at all. Though he did spend a lot of money on Christmas gifts for his friend "Liza" (which he name dropped too many times to count...or care.)
Tracee Ellis Ross - Hor-rib-ble. Though she wasn't an actress at the time, she was attending this local college. She was a frequent visitor to my store, and let everyone know she was Diana Ross' daughter. (Her older sister Rhonda was a few years before her - couldn't be any nicer!).

Once saw the folk singer Beth Orton at a festival, asked if I could take her photo. She said sure. Then I realised I'd left the lens cap on, asked if I could take it again. In the picture she's trying heroically not to laugh.

I Met Amy Adams a couple of years ago in NYC, and asked for an autograph. She's one of the sweetest people I have ever spoken too even if it was only a couple of words.

It’s possible they may have sat together, I can’t remember.

Frank Finlay, Leo Sayer, Alison King A bit Grumpy to GrumpyMurray Walker, David Bellamy, Alan Moore, Bill Sienkiewicz, Pauline Black, David Hemmings. Rude, Obnoxious, Loutish, Aloof.
Vinnie Jones on many occasions over the years. [local chap] My middle daughter said that Paul Whitehouse, Peter Capaldi and Hugh Laurie are really nice. For anecdotal reasons...a bit of extra here : Amanda Burton I was told was not friendly, but she was ribbing me a lot of the day as I was dressed as vicar giving counsel after a bombing, and i thought she was ace. Wolf Kahler gently cajoled me into turning my pager off when he was aware i had one on me as my wife was near to giving birth. Paul Kaye, and Andy Serkis joked quite a bit. Ralph Brown [dressed as a prison guard] played a game of makeshift rounders with some of us extras dressed as prisoners whilst filming at 0xford prison in between takes/lunch. Warren Mitchell [also dressed as a prisoner in same production] was sitting on a bench watching the 'rounder's match, and chatted quite pleasantly when i sat next to him taking a breather. He left the film next day soon after i started and was replaced by David Kelly soon after following apparently a dust-up/disagreement with v.jones. I very drunkenly, unintentionally cheesed off for a bit Leo Sayer in his back-stage hospitality bit, after drinking [lots of] his complimentary beer and wine of which i was a guest. I sorta said to him, after he had come offstage and was having a Guinness and a bit of a towel down [ and being friendly] that "I liked your first album, then you went all poppy." to which he huffilly and understandably said "Well i'm sorry!!" and stormed off for a shower. The girl I was with was horrified and embarrassed that I [as a guest] had said this, quoffing his wine. I apologised when he came back and changed the subject to his production of a Roger Daltry album, and he seemed a bit less pissed off with me then. Jerry Hall was very friendly and chatty when we were at a bar after i'd seen her in a play [ i was fluffy drunk again] ...but I had a bit of a problem deciphering her strong Texas accent. I politely asked, after a longish chat for her autograph on my theatre programme, and she asked me if 'I had a pain' a couple of times... which i thought was incredibly perceptive of her as i cut me arm open a few days earlier at work. As i rolled up my jacket and showed her my wound to her surprised, dismayed horror, one of her big minders whispered in my ear 'She said have you got a PEN !!'
I slunk off quickly back to my table after getting the signature..quite embarassed. I cheesed off Murray Walker after he heard my loud, bad impression of him, whilst we were walking about after a Brand's Hatch Grand Prix. My mates had said 'Do your Murray Walker'....they didn't tell me he was about 2 yards behind me!! He looked at me witheringly and quite hatefully when i had looked behind after a few minutes of this over-the-top mimic getting huge guffaws from my so-called buddies. LoL Drank for hours into the early with a mate and a couple of bar staff with Buster Bloodvessel and Bad Manners after a gig and he was a delight, and gracious and gregarious...unlike Pauline Black from The Selector who lectured me on smoking [ i asked her to autograph my cigarette packet which she refused] before trying to flog me a t-shirt. I declined. Berni Wrightson told me off for having a grubby copy of Creepshow for him to sign...it was a second hand copy though. Howard Chaykin was earthy and funny and welcoming, but Bill Sienkiewicz was grumpy. Can all forgive these as comic con folk often have long flights etc. Nicola Bryant [the gorgeous Peri from Dr Who] was at a sci-fi thingy signing at Wembley. I didn't know she was there until I asked this girl sitting behind a Dr Who stand how much the Rolykins Dalek was. When she said she wasn't sure as she was not serving, i felt myself blush heavily as it was Nicola. I said something awful like she was my pin-up Doc Who, which was true. we chatted for ages, and if i wasnt married, would have asked her for a drink. And she signed my Dalek.....for free, unlike some folk there, like Darth Maul [parks?] , who was charging a fortune for a scribble

I didn't think I ever met any celebrities but I forgot (because I tend not to think of them as celebrities).
Todd McFarlane-comic book artist etc. Polite but aloof.
Randy Bachman -- borrowed a Commodore 64 computer from his stepson and it got busted somehow and tried sneaking it back but he was outside watering his lawn and he looked at me and said calmly: "Is that our computer?"
I said: "Uh... yeah!" and ran past him.

........cordial, or incredibly rude (or, just somewhere in-between) ?? SAVE FERRISI was walking down the street in NYC and I saw Winona Ryder and a girl friend waking toward me. She saw me notice her and did a whole shying away averting her face thing. Weird thing is I WASNT even going to approach her. I just caught her eye the same way you would anyone else. Another time, I bumped into Stanley Tucci when he had been doing Frankie and Johnny on Broadway (Lots of celebrities to be found in NYC streets). This time I did approach, as I am a big fan. I caught his eye, smiled and put out my hand, and said "Can I shake your hand?" He smiled, shook my hand, and we went on our respective ways.
