Would it not be prudent for us to be able to see which posters voted for which option in our polls? Is it for reasons of privacy that the votes of individual posters aren't made public? But if so, wouldn't it make sense that the poll creator should be able to see, at least?

Those who want to say who/what they voted for can and do say so in the discussion posts that follow the polls.

I can't even see who voted for whom/what. Why do you think the poll creator should be able to see that?

Nobody can. Why do you think anyone should be able to? Well, why not? Maybe the voters don't want anyone to know. If they do, they can publicize it, as BATouttaheck said above. Why do you think votes should not be confidential?

But if so, wouldn't it make sense that the poll creator should be able to see, at least? I believe even voting in general elections of most (all) democratic countries are anonymous. ProBoards follows the same principle involved. Many times we desire anonymity because there are complex topics and we do not want to actively release our views in public. Add to that this is an age of political correctness and social justice in which even little things are exaggerated. Many people whom you may not even realise have strong political beliefs but do not share those beliefs because they may likely get bullied by the majority or they simply don't feel comfortable sharing those beliefs. Someone might not want to criticise Islam in fear of getting labeled an Islamophobe. Some might hold opinions contrary to mainstream science or prevailing social values and may not want to be open about their beliefs. Anonymity gives them the freedom to vote.

I also post on a hockey message board called HFBoards; there all poll participants are fully visible to the public if the poll author so desires. I suppose merely having your opinions about ice hockey exposed is much less objectionable than the nigh-on taboo topics discussed here, however.

Without getting into the anonymity vs. flexibility (I guess) argument, it's something baked into the polling feature and it can't be changed. ProBoards have been asked for the option to see who voted what multiple times and have responded each time that it will not change because they consider it an invasion of privacy and that if you want to keep a tally of who has voted for what, that voters should respond how they voted in a post. I'm not going to get into whether that's a good idea or not but that's just the way it is when it comes to the feature.

If you feel it's an invasion of privacy then don't vote. I visit a music board and there's no whining about losing your privacy or anonymity when voting. I think it's great when you can see what others are voting for and saves you the trouble of having to post your votes. And it keeps troll votes away, or at least it makes it obvious who's trolling a poll.
