I hope Matt and Anne still work together within the future really like their chemistry on screen. their chemistry here was honestly razzie worthy. their physical contact was almost unwatchable. but its not their fault really. the script has them almost same age, and their age difference is so OBVIOUS it was really disturbing when they talked about things in the past that should have placed them in the same age category. Plus the script is so hole ridden and while the directorial choices make certain sense once you know what its all about, to pull it of with such cringeworthy dialogues and all those plot holes must have been impossible, even for actors of their calibre. criminally wasted Diane Lane and everybody's talent. but the very basic idea is not bad. I kinda think had it had different producers (i dont want to say which ones as it would indicate a spoiler) it could have worked out. When watching the trailer my assumption was, it was going to be a Westworld Style twist as well. IE: everything's actually fake and Jason Clarke's a Robert Ford esque visionary, hence why he can't die at all. Speaking of Clarke I keep waiting for him hopefully to breakout as an actor soon. Chappaquidick should've been his actually. Keep in mind don't spoil yet, still gonna see it.

I saw it today. I didn't hate it, but I am glad I only spent $5 on it, and not the regular price of $13.50. Anyway, I wish they had made a straight neo-noir movie with the basic story, something like "Body Heat", dropping the preposterous "explanation" altogether.

Knight's so hit and miss as a writer.

The stars and director Steven Knight are apparently upset that the distributor Aviron Pictures essentially left it for dead.

Anyway, I wish they had made a straight neo-noir movie with the basic story, something like "Body Heat", dropping the preposterous "explanation" altogether.... precisely. Serenity offers potential as a neo- noir, but trying to layer matters with a virtual reality story and some sort of spiritual mysticism is like dumping an excessive amount of cargo on the boat, causing it to teeter and finally sink. I ultimately consider the film "lousy," but like you, I did not find it unwatchable or worst-movie-of-the-year atrocious. Indeed, the film actually poses a compelling ethical question to the viewer: if you were in the protagonist's position, would you conspire to murder your son's abusive stepfather? Despite a very shaky start, Serenity managed to hold my attention, and the neo- noir aspects occasionally proved rather magnetic. But the script, tone, musical score, and editing (i.e. over-editing) just flail about in too many directions. The surprise is that a cast this impressive (although in my opinion, Anne Hathaway is weak as an actual actress) agreed to this script. To sign up for this script suggests that one is desperate for money ...

Well, for at least a couple of weeks, I saw a large cardboard advertisement in the theater where I viewed the film ...

I kinda think had it had different producers (i dont want to say which ones as it would indicate a spoiler) it could have worked out. ... mainly because Anne Hathaway is there for her looks and figure, not any real ability as an actress. I have only seen her in this film and Interstellar (2014), but in both cases, she constituted the "weakest link" in the cast. She is so over-the-top here that she suggests an unintentional parody. Obviously, better writing and direction would have helped, but so too would better casting for her role. Surely, some other actress could have looked the part while playing it effectively, too. I concur that attempting to make her character the same age as McConaughey's made no sense, and that decision briefly took me out of the story. McConaughey is certainly not too old to attract her, but he is definitely too old to have constituted a high school classmate of hers. Actually, though, I thought that their sex scene proved erotic and intense—it is probably Hathaway's best acting in the entire film (which obviously does not say much).

apparently drinking too much on this shoot is what made Anne Hathaway quit drinking... I felt like I didn't drink enough while watching this. Haha. The twist really wasn't a twist since the characters directly describe what is actually happening. The over the top shenanigans is what kept me interested and according to birthmoviesdeath.com, Anne Hathaway's hilarious Jessica Rabbit-style acting. XD

I saw it a while ago. Honestly, I kind of admired it for its insanity.
