Have you seen any examples of where animals inspired the creation of movie monsters? A bit like how make-up artists draw from autopsies and war photography to do their work.
I guess the alien in 'Alien' (1979) draws from a number of sources, from snakes to reptiles ... and 'The Creature From The Black Lagoon' (1954) is inspired by reptiles ...

Yes, but I don't know if it's a real animal or a movie monster. Conflicting reports. Fake news says it's real, but I don't believe it.

Not a 'monster' as such, but rather a 'beast'. Since the first time I saw the Niffler in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), I've thought it looks like a cross between an echidna and a platypus.
