Steven Soderbergh's book Getting Away With It has many interviews with Lester, interleaved with diary passages from a neurotically wry filmmaker. Lester is both casual and confident by comparison. He works fast and doesn't wring his hands with indecision. The only feedback he values is from his editor. In Soderbergh's opinion, Lester has produced: Three Masterpieces
- A Hard Day's Night (1964)
- The Knack... and How to Get It (1965)
- Petulia (1968)
Four Classics
- The Three Musketeers (1973)
- The Four Musketeers (1974)
- Juggernaut (1974)
- Robin and Marian (1976)
Six Worthwhile Divertissements - It's Trad, Dad! (1962) (aka Ring-a-Ding Rhythm!)
- Help! (1965)
- A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966)
- Royal Flash (1975)
- The Ritz (1976)
- Superman II (1980) and Superman III (1983)
Three Really Fascinating Films That Get Better With Age - How I Won the War (1967)
- The Bed Sitting Room (1969)
- Cuba (1979)
I'll post my own thoughts as links to capsule reviews and thumbnails, one per day.

My favorites of his are:
The Three Musketeers The Four Musketeers Superman II
I also like A Hard Day's Night. I don't care much for Robin and Marion (although I admit I liked it as a kid).

For me Robin and Marion is a good film that becomes great at the end. Because of that final shot I think I love it more than I should which is appropriate for a film dealing with a legend.

Loved the fist two Musketeer movies. Found the third one kind of 'meh' and it's uncomfortable to watch knowing how it became Roy Kinnear's last performance.

He died from an accident during filming, when he fell off a horse. Lester quit directing after that. He won't talk about it but people seem to believe it was a because of Kinnear, who he used in many films.

Kim Cattrall is amusing as Rochefort's daughter (sorry I think that was a spoiler?). But it's one of those sequels that feels as tired as you are watching it.

Superman II is still the best Superman movie. I enjoy the Musketeers movies very much too. A Hard Days Night, 1 1/2 hour of Beatles music, 'nuff said.
