Has anyone seen this new documentary? I only knew of the name until I was an adult, when I heard Bill Hicks' mentioning a bit how Ted Bundy gets marriage proposals, but he can't get laid, but it wasn't until a friend mentioned an upcoming show later that night, and I got interested, and then heard about this new thing.
Amazed me how he escaped twice, but yet couldn't control his urges; as well as defending himself in court.

I have not seen the documentary yet.
Bundy was a smart guy. One of his best talents was the ability to charm people. Most of those who knew him never suspected he could be a killer. There are some who have hypothesized he (subconsciously) chose to come to Florida because of its capital punishment laws. There was a pretty accurate tv movie called The Deliberate Stranger (1986) if you're interested.
I remember the day Bundy was executed a local radio dj announced the execution was scheduled in the next five minutes and everyone should turn off all unnecessary electrical appliances to ensure he would get a strong jolt of electricity. So a song started and a few minutes later it began to drag off and on as if the power supply was being taxed. I'm a sucker for sick humor.

He was such a good talker (he represented himself in court) the judge in the trial complimented him and wished him well!
They showed people with frying pans outside the prison when he was executed.

I've watched part one of four so far. I'm also interested in seeing the movie coming out.
Bundy might be the most terrifying serial killer because he was just so normal most of the time. He was easily the charming guy you work with or run into at the bar, never thinking he would be having sex with the corpses of the women he murdered until they were too putrefied to do so with.
What I really want to know is why the girlfriend reported her suspicions 3 times to police that he was the guy, and yet still continued to see him? I mean, what's the thought process behind that?

Just watched the first episode. I don't know anything about the fellow so was taken aback at the way he presented himself in the first episode, as an ambitious, intelligent, articulate and reasonable man. What the f*** went wrong, brah? Or it was there all along, just brilliantly disguised. I ain't gonna spoil anything for anyone, only to comment that the idea/plan that Michaud (the recordist) came up with to finally get Bundy to talk about the killings, and not reminisce on his school days/first girlfriend/politics etc, was simple but quite clever. I expect the three remaining episodes to be very much darker.

John Wayne Gacy was also a normal acting and very friendly guy, that raped and murdered countless teenage boys and buried them under the floorboards of his house. This is what makes them so dangerous. Most people are good at hiding the bad sides of themselves, it's just that most people's bad side isn't nearly as deranged as Ted Bundy's.

Yes, you watch movies about these people, read books about 'em, but your post serves as a chilling reminder that the possibility (probability?) exists that you may come into contact, directly or indirectly, with such a normal-seeming person every day of your life, or at least on a regular basis and not be remotely aware of what's behind their façade. And to me that's scary, brah. Of course, you can't go around thinking everyone sitting next to you on the bus is a possible sociopath or refuse to open the door to the delivery guy because through the peephole you see he isn't smiling, but it does still give one pause.

I just finished this. It was good, and there was some new audio, especially from 1981 on.

It was good, but it would have been better if they included more details about his crimes. The book that came out of those tapes is better.

...Watched the rest of it. Like I said, I knew very little about him before watching, and now of course I'm going to state the obvious...what a f***ing monster, brah. His story is well documented, I know, but to a newbie like me it comes as a real shocker.
And as for that cop chief being interviewed after one of Bundy's escapes, what the hell kinda cops did they have back then? No wonder they had psychs on the rampage with attitude like his. How did Bundy manage to escape? Cop basically laughs/chuckles/smiles his way through his replies! I'm sitting there thinking, I don't believe what I'm seeing here, you're a flippant son of a b*tch, you rotter.
But, yes, worth a watch if you've time.

It happened because Bundy was so charismatic they let their guards down with him. The way his trial played out is really telling. He basically ran the whole thing, but in the end he couldn't charm his way out of the truth.
