a softcore lesbian BONNIE AND CLYDE. two young women (an introvert and a sex crazed extrovert) escape from a mental asylum. the extrovert hates the dazed introvert who is unable to deal with the outside world. but the introvert (who was a ballet dancer) is glued to the extrovert and soon they take to each other. they fall in with a small travelling sleaze carnival. then with a sailor who agrees to take them in as stowaways on a ship along with his girlfriend. but an encounter with two rich businessmen and their bisexual girlfriends destroys any chance of escape and freedom.
this is the kind of degenerate film that one hopes would be made by a great (or atleast half talented) director. it is not a great film at all. the script seems to have been written on the sets. the first half was quite engaging. but there are many wtf moments due to ridiculous plot developments. in the end, you sort of wonder about what could have been if the writer/director had any sense or talent.
director jean rollin does provide some nice touches - the first scene with the introvert on a rocking chair with the doctor and nurse observing her from a distance and discussing her case. the gaudy sets at the quite castle like metal asylum. the junkyard close to the sea where the sleaze carnival is held. the cavernous bar where the two escapees spend a night. but the dialogs which include short reflections about freedom and escape are a bit hard to take seriously especially since they are delivered by terrible actors. there are hardly any nude scenes. apparently this is not one of ROLLIN's best work. i was able to watch it on bluray and the film does look quite beautiful. but like i said you just keep wondering about what could have been.
