Ahem, an article that's not about the age of the Earth. Well done you. Same point. Science does not currently know the age of the earth or universe and the estimates could change drastically in the very near future. Bullshit. We do know the age of the earth and the age of the universe and those numbers are not going to change drastically in the near future or any other time. You don't know shit about science.

I’ve been noticing a lot of necrothread bumps. This is way better than creating a new thread about the same topic. Alright smartypants, why don't you find a new holy book instead of reading that same old necrobook?

Today's bullshit excuse for believing in creationism, courtesy of Cody. The man who will believe anything, no matter how stupid or evil it might be, to preserve his imaginary friend.

Granted this particular topic is stupid but overall it’s better to keep threads going instead of creating new ones.

When I first heard of this estimate of the Earth’s age being approx. 6000 years old, my first reaction wasn’t, ‘science doesn’t say that’ but to laugh at the simplistic mathematics of it all. The idea that all was started by just two people and to count backwards all the begets is just absurd in of itself.

KIBL and the wolf-something guy were the only ones on the old board, and they didn’t transfer over. Good riddance...YECs are dense as fuck. Yeah but they're hilarious, they always use the same terrible arguments: "If humans evolved from apes then why are there still monkeys? Check mate atheists!" Goddamn, that wolf guy always resorted to that shit. It was maddening.

An evil, bat-shit god who would deliberately deceive and torture its creation, but will save them though, fits into their theology. It’s part of why they love Trump.

No, I really don't. No, that is not possible. The only thing that is going to happen in the next 100 years is that the error bars are probably going to shrink. So you’re saying it’s impossible for science to discover a more reliable and accurate technique than radiometric dating to estimate the age of the earth in the near future? We already have several more reliable ways to date rocks, but they are all dependant on very specific minerals/fossils.
The problem isn't dating the rocks, it's finding the oldest rock formations.
You see over this long time period, mountains are formed, rock types forms above older rocks (whether it's sedimentary or volcanic), then we have volcanic and seismologic activity that changes the layers. Sometimes you can find they've changed it so the older rock formations lie atop younger.
Then you have rivers, sea or chemical erotions or ice ages that removes big parts of the landscape.
To put it this way we know the earth is at least 4.28 billion years (It's usually rounded up to 4.5 billion years for a variety of reasons) old because that's the oldest rock formations we've discovered.
But it is possible it's older than that. What we can say with certainty is that it's not younger than this.

If I didn't want to be inflammatory on these boards I would from now on, refer to the Bible as the 'Necrobook'!

the Words of the Holy Spirit ?
ironic in the use of flames and death.

Creationist : "You don't know how old your father is." Sensible person : "I do. He's eighty." Creationist : "Aha, but you could be wrong about that, right?" Sensible person : "Well technically I round down to his last birthday, so he's like eighty and three months." Creationist : "But could be wrong about that, right?" Sensible person : "Alright, if we want to be really exact, then I was rounding then too. To be accurate, I would say he's eighty years and three months and four days." Creationist : "And that number could change again, right?" Sensible person : "I suppose there could have been some inaccuracy in the records. Maybe if I looked into it I'd find that someone's watch was wrong, or perhaps he was born in the early hours of the day and then the certificate wasn't filled in until the admin staff came on duty at 9am or something." Creationist : "SEE! You DON'T KNOW how old your father is! You keep changing your answers, and you admit that the REAL answer could be different again! Therefore it is just as likely that I'm right in my claim that father is a quarter of a second old!" Sensible person : "That makes no sense." Creationist : "YOU DON'T KNOW! YOU ADMITTED IT! THEREFORE ALL ANSWERS ARE EQUALLY LIKELY TO BE TRUE!" Sensible person : "That's just stupid."
This is how creationism works, folks. Grown up adult people capable of tying their own shoelaces think like this... and all so they can pretend that bronze age writings are completely accurate depictions of reality.

"you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,
and saying "where is the promise of His coming ? For since the the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were
from the beginning of creation".
For this they willfully forget that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water,
by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the the heavens and the earth which are now
preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgement and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved. do not forget
this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years is as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with a fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it
will be burned up.
Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens
will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat ? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells". 2 Peter 3: 2-13
Nothing is Impossible for an Infinite All Powerful God. there is no problem since God controls All of Time and Space Itself.
His creation can appear any age He chooses. He Rules His Universe.
there is no contradiction from scripture - only people who misunderstand what God has said misinterpret things

This has come up before. While the type of deliberate supernatural you describe has many alleged attributes, it is commonplace amongst philosophers that God can do everything except change His nature and that which is logically impossible. i.e. in the most often quoted example, if there is stone which can be lifted then God can lift it.

One of the most stupidest analogies ever attempted on this board. Also comparing 80 odd years to billions and billions of years?! GTFOH! We have birth certificates that can prove how old your old man is. All we have for the age of the earth/universe is speculation, conjecture and at best educated guesses.
