We have birth certificates that can prove how old your old man is. All we have for the age of the earth/universe is speculation, conjecture and at best educated guesses.

I thought that the analogy is perfect, thus representing the 'relative' discrepancies involved in both scenarios.

At least you are admitting that whilst it is difficult to put a round figure in seconds to the age of the earth, at least you are admitting it is

billions and billions of years

old.

There is this field of human knowledge called "science."

Some of the kids who didn't take the short bus to school became "scientists."

Scientists take data, which is a concept that you obviously find confusing, and use it to build models based on evidence. Using this process, scientists have built models with a high degree of probability. You may also want to read up on a concept called "object permanence," which is something that the long-bus kids figured out a long time ago.
