Welles knew better than that when it came to most and especially the best directors. Where was that statement made? I believe it's a bit tongue in cheek. I remember once he was asked if he ever stole from other directors, and he replied that he always did, especially from - wait for it - John Ford. When he was asked who were the three best directors, he said, John Ford, John Ford, and John Ford.

I dont know where it was said. I was on a page of alleged Welles quotes.
