I didn't find it to be the trainwreck I heard it was.
In fact, it did more interesting things with Spider-man like making him an asshole (borrowed from Superman 3?).

Even with its flaws this movie is better than Homecoming. Raimi understood this character and MacGuire is still the definitive on screen Spidey. Once the character "came home" to Marvel they gave him to a creative team that turned the property into a cheesy, weightless John Hughes high school comedy. Raptor/Archie if you're reading this please don't hate me! I only speak the truth! |

I just disagree. It is a bad movie, for the most part. Sandman was great, but Venom was a disaster and the entire emo Peter parts were cringe worthy. Also, Toby somehow forgot how to act in this movie. Watch the scene at the park when Mary Jane breaks up with him. He starts crying and it seriously makes you want to laugh.

I just disagree. It is a bad movie, for the most part. Sandman was great, but Venom was a disaster and the entire emo Peter parts were cringe worthy. Also, Toby somehow forgot how to act in this movie. Watch the scene at the park when Mary Jane breaks up with him. He starts crying and it seriously makes you want to laugh. The bridge scene is awful. I will give you that. In fact, I don't really like anything about how they handled Harry as the Goblin. But I love all the Symbiote stuff. Especially the James Brown sequence. It's glorious. |

Don't get me wrong though, I actually still enjoy the movie, but I think Homecoming, Spiderman 1, and Spiderman 2 are better. I get that. But what I like about them is that they show that even when he completely succumbs to his dark side, Peter isn't really that bad. Which is contrasted nicely when Brock gets the Symbiote and becomes a total sadistic maniac. At the same time, Peter does do some seriously horrible things like "kill" Sandman, slap MJ and throw a pumpkin in Harry's face. So it's not like the Symbiote doesn't bring out any bad qualities. |
