Romero for me.
He was the closest to the standard comics version.
Ledger was too subdued dorky and Nicholson was older dorky.
The Joker was conceived as a Conrad Veidt type--Ledger and Nicholson are not that type. Romero was.

It's too hard for me to pick. All three of them gave such different performances and all were excellent in their own way. Heath Ledger's Joker was such a different creature from Jack Nicholson's that I think it's useless to try and decide which one was better, for me anyway.

Ledger. There's virtually no trace of Heath Ledger onscreen he's so into it.

That would explain the "leading the witness" style the poll answers are. I don't care how many exclamation points you put next to his name, Ledger acted circles around Romero and Nicholson. |
