In America, yes. Around the world, I would give that honor to the World Cup since soccer is the number one sport worldwide.
And it's also the only championship where the winner can truly claim to be world champions.

It may very well be the single most popular annual championship game of all sports, but if you include quadrennial events such as the World Cup, then the answer is a categorical "No way in Hell!".
