About the only movie I've ever turned off due to a combination of boredom and disgust was 1900 (novecento) by Bertolucci. This was the full 317 minute version. The fascist played by Donald Sutherland was just so over the top as to be caricature. The rest of the film just plodded along. I made it about 3 hours in.

I can see why someone would turn off a movie after seeing less than half. Seeing more than half still makes a little sense, depending on the difference between the time seen and the time left. However, watching 3 hours and quitting when there are less than 20 minutes left? At that point wouldn't a person say "I'm already here, so I might as well"?

See again, 317 minutes - that's 5 1/2 hours. I was about halfway in...

I made it all the way through the long version of 1900. You didn't miss much

I absolutely have to finish 99% of the movies I watch. Sometimes I'll move them into background noise if they're schlock and I'll work on the computer or something, but I have to finish them. I have paused some horrible movies to get a snack/bathroom break because I feel compelled to watch the whole thing.
And I can't pick up a movie in the middle. If I make it an hour in and fall asleep or have to abruptly do something (life happens), next time I give it a watch, it's all the way back to the beginning.

I usually give it about 20-30 minutes. If I’m not feeling it that far in then I assume it’s not worth continuing.
