So, what do you think? Is this the beginning of the end of separation of church and state, or is it just another way to secularize Christianity and put it in the same category as ancient history, where it should be?
I remember how UNseriously most kids took things in high school. Once you put it in the education system, the kids will focus on how to get by with the least work to get the grades needed to pass. Most kids will know that, unlike math, science and political science, which might actually be useful in some honest to goodness career, studying the Bible will be about as important as philosophy. And I'm NOT saying philosophy is not important, just that whether the students take it seriously will depend on how the material is presented and how important the teacher makes the course seem.
I am not sure why...or IF, true believers want the public education system to be where their kids learn about God and the importance of Christianity. It seems to me they should want that reserved for them and the church they attend...so the kids learn the "right" religious beliefs. Don't they realize that the manner in which a teacher "presents" material will have a strong influence on how seriously the kids take the material. An agnostic/atheist teacher might be just the ticket for their kids to realize that other than its importance to history of the ANE, the Bible is completely irrelevant to today's society.
