The Passion of the Christ was released in 2003. I was told the board talked about the movie for a couple of years until it became repetitive and boring. Then they started discussing all other subjects. It became more like a General board, sort of like a more mature Soapbox. I joined in 2005 and noticed it wasn't like any other movie board I had seen. The tightly-knit community called itself "The Passion Pit", later shortened to just "The Pit".
For years there had been complaints about off-topic posts on TPOTC board. In 2007 the IMDb had an expansion where they created the Religion board among others. Then the admins herded us onto that new board by punishing off-topic posting. In the next couple of years TPOTC board slowly became a ghost town.

Politics was a hellish no-man's land. But it was undeniably entertaining. That's a very interesting way to put it. Being an extreme non-politico myself, I was rarely on that board. But I have no doubt it was not boring.

I miss the Jaws board. It was amazing how many different aspects of that movie got discussed. And any topic could be traced to Jaws as well. Afterwards I joined some Facebook fan group, but it's not the same. I love that movie and I loved that board.

Probably Revenge of the Sith right after its release. It's almost hard to remember a time when Star Wars fans were fun and lovable, but that board was a godd*mn blast. I called myself Addyson Skywalker back then and basically shatpost the whole time (ie, a 40 Year Old Virgin parody with Obi-Wan Kenobi), but so did most users. Then there were some fun RPGs like Scott's Hotel and a Star Wars/Lost crossover. Man I miss that place.
I also really liked the Scream board around 2006/2007. I kind of became like the "main guy" there, which hasn't happened before or since. And I made some friendships that lasted years. But then that board got taken over by RPGs (which lead to the creation of the RPG board, much like The Passion board lead to the creation of the Religion board apparently) so me and my friends kind of faded out.

Yeah, I remember you from the DOCTOR WHO (1963) board. Good times. Yes, they were. It's a shame they had to end so abruptly. I remember an IMDb user named raventhom had a series of threads, one for each season. The threads contained his commentary on each serial in the season. Unfortunately, it appears raventhom never made the journey here. I still have on my computer text files where I prepared my replies to raventhom's posts, for example: THE TALONS OF WENG-CHIANGAgreed. IMO, "The Talons of Weng-Chiang" is the crowning achievement of the Hinchcliffe/Holmes era. Yes, the script by Robert Holmes is very witty, with great dialogue and great supporting characters. Although I've never heard any of their audio adventures, I'm glad that Jago and Lightfoot finally got their own spin-off series. Yes indeed. Mary "Think of the Children!" Whitehouse was forcing Hinchcliffe and Holmes out, but they were not going down without a fight. In addition to the wet t-shirt scene for Leela, they added the adult content of prostitutes and opium dens. They also allocated a larger than usual budget to this story. As I noted in my comments on "The Masque of Mandragora", "The Talons of Weng-Chiang" is the pinnacle of sheer production value for this era. The extensive use of location shooting, especially night shooting, really demonstrates the BBC's mastery of period drama. The only thing that brings it down is some of the shots of the giant rat, but the rest of this serial is so good I'm willing to forgive that. "The Talons of Weng-Chiang" is my #1 Doctor Who story of all time! I guess that means David Maloney is my favorite Who director, since he also directed "Genesis of the Daleks" (my #2), and The Deadly Assassin (my #3). Some GozTrivia@ A cohort on the Old Sandbox and I suggested and instigated the Watercooler Board, I was on the old IMDb from Sept 5 2002 and was first on Sandbox, Soapbox (which in the new incarnation became split as the Religion and Politics Boards ) and also the Food and Music General Boards, with guest appearance on The Bold and The Beautiful and a few other fun Boards for tragics!

It seems so many of the individuals we interacted with on a daily basis simply disappeared into thin air, as if they were simply willed out of existence by some Marvel Universe villain. Fortunately, a handful of users whom I was quite close with all made the journey to another website, where we keep in touch to this day. I believe you yourself are a member there. PS - I have every piece of footage currently known of from Classic Who in my collection. THE TALONS OF WENG-CHIANG rates very highly in my list of favourites.

Unfortunately, I discovered THE WATERCOOLER only a matter of months before the end, but I suppose I should count myself lucky to have been able to spend any time there at all. PS - I was previously aware of your role in its creation.

Thankyou, I like to think that it was a really cool place to hang, because despite some interpersonal feuds, the content and subject matter was as wide as our imaginations and as broad as our views. EVERYONE was welcome, and if you were a bit doo'lally. you were especially welcome to add some spice or fun or laughter or bonamie to the whole Board. I like to think that when people were SO off topic anywhere else, they were sent by admin to the Watercooler and we all accepted and welcomed the loons and the buffoons and the smarts and the hearts and multicultural and global. It was indeed pretty cool and often 'off the wall'!

True, the old Sandbox had become such a cesspit overrun with kiddies and holiday youth that the grown ups adjourned with thanks to the Watercooler.
