I don’t know what he’s said about hunting but there is nothing I can find that’s related to Chris’s Pratt and the ASPCA except for his fiancée being an ASPCA ambassador. I wonder what that’s about or where she got that info? Super curious. 5 years ago his wife at the time Anna Farris' dog was found on the streets. She had gotten him before her and Chris were Married. When she got the dog she agreed in the contract to the shelter if she rehomed him to another family she would pay a 4,000 or 5,000 dollar fine/fee. She apparently had given him to another family either while both were on location temporarily or permanently. I can't remember. The sitter/new owner lost him on the streets so when it was picked up and scanned it pointed back to Anna, not the sitter/new owner. She eventually paid the fine/fee per the contract she signed. A few years before that he went on Twitter to see if he could get rid of the family cat also. Don't know why or the circumstances. If you believe in a Judeo-Christian God who said he gave Dominion of the World and the Animals to man I can see the thought pattern. I've heard Native Americans talk back at lectures back in the day how killing an animal for food shows you what parts of you that are alive, civil, wild, and caring. No to big of a stretch from what he said about the animal vs human. The "closeness to God that I feel when I'm out there, is my humanity." Could be taken as talking about hunting/killing, but it also could be about just being in nature. The "when I'm out there." is the interpretive part. I personally love meat and have help slaughter a pig and a cow in my day. (got to love AG class in 8th grade in rural NC.) And helped my Brother field strip a deer. I just don't care for it. I don't hunt though. I love to fish and have no qualms gutting and cleaning fish. I guess it's the difference between mammalian eyes and fish eyes that's the difference. As for the Gay Conversion Therapy, I don't know anything about. I don't know if it was the Church he goes too or the Church before this one the Head is from. |

Well, not allowing LGBT people to hold positions in their management would certainly qualify as discrimination. Yes and no. Eating of pork is dissalowed in some religions. Would you say it was discrimination for these religions to make sure that their management personel followed this rule? That they didn't allow anyone who ate pork into their management? In the same way, it's common knowledge that homosexuality is dissalowed in a lot of Christian denominations. Dissalowing LGBTQ people from holding positions in their management would simply be them following their doctrine. It's not fair to label a religion bigoted simply for practicing their teachings. That's what religious freedom is about after all. We don't get to force our own beliefs on their religion. As long as they don't go attacking people outside their organization, they do have a right to what rules they want to implement in their organization. It's not like other organizations don't have requirements for certain positions. Some impose age limitations. Some impose gender limitations. Some dissalow people with tattoos. Some dissalow people with criminal records. Some dissalow people who use drugs. Etc. I’d argue that if it’s a Christian organization, it should be fair for anyone who is a practicing Christian to have the opportunity to be part of their management. Mind you, I don’t have much of an opinion on the matter, but discrimination on the basis of sexuality can potentially lead to some ugly lawsuits. |

I didn't know about Hillsong's stance about LGBTQ prior to this thread. Heck, I didn't even know Hillsong was a church, I thought they were a religious band. Anyway, I researched more about this controversy and found that Hillsong actually accepts and has no issues with LGBTQs joining their parish. Where the controversy comes up is that they don't allow LGBTQs to hold any positions in their management. And while I don't necessarily agree with this, it also isn't as bigoted as I was led to believe reading Ellen's tweet. I've been out of the church game for a while, but back when I was this was no different than Catholic and Protestant Churches. If you were closeted I guess you could hold management positions or be a Pastor/Priest, but not if you were open. From what I've casually read I don't think much has changed. I guess allowing quiet or closeted males as priest is a step up from the "bigotry" of Churches "discriminating" against females in power positions/priest but not by much. If Pratt was a Devout Catholic would the same hue and cry be raised? |

You normally want to hire people who are exemplary examples of your beliefs, or at the very least someone who doesn't openly go against your teachings. If one of your teachings is that smoking is sinful, you don't hire a smoker to be one of your officials otherwise you'd end up looking like a hypocrite. And again, religious freedom (and the first amendment) allows churches to place their own rules and restrictions based on their faith. To a certain degree anyway. I doubt you'd win a lawsuit against them for not hiring LGBTQ personnel. I don't appreciate it when someone comes up to me and forces their religious beliefs on me, and in the same way I don't go into different churches trying to force them to change their rules based on my beliefs. |
