Unbeknownst to Fran, her cracked compact mirror reveals to C.C. Baxter even more about her than she intends or imagines. Please, why? This is too deep for me. Failing to appreciate the wonder of "Vertigo" yet again has shattered my self-confidence as a film analyst.

Assuming you've seen the film (and are not having me on)... ...Baxter recognizes the compact from having found it in his apartment and giving it to Sheldrake after his assignation there, tipping Baxter off that Fran's the woman with whom his boss was having an affair.

Oh, I don't want to discourage you from having me on if it takes your fancy. Catch me at the right moment, and I'm a pretty easy mark.

An angel appears in a mirror in a pawn shop in the British The Angel Who Pawned Her Harp 1954, doing just that, pawning her harp:

Sexy Beast (2000)Please don't open if offended by bad language, Ben Kingsley is positively enjoying reaching his dark half in a role > Shut up, cunt. You louse. You got some fuckin' neck ain't you. Retired? Fuck off, you're revolting. Look at your suntan, it's leather, it's like leather man, your skin. We could make a fucking suitcase out of you. Like a crocodile, fat crocodile, fat bastard. You look like fucking Idi Amin, you know what I mean? Stay here? You should be ashamed of yourself. Who do you think you are? King of the castle? Cock of the walk?

This post isn't really about mirrors, but I can't find a slot closer in which to put it.
There is one goof which particularly bugs me and which is repeated again and again (I've only ever seen one correct example and I can't remember the name of the movie).
I refer to the image a user sees when looking through a pair of binoculars, or to be more accurate the shape of the image. The film-makers repeatedly show OO to emulate the two eye pieces of binoculars, when they should show O, no different than when looking through a telescope.
Have none of them ever looked through a pair of binoculars?
