Ship him and MadBum to Atlanta please. Like on Delta or a trade? Would Brian Mccann approve? I think that might be against an unwritten rule...

The Giants aren't what they once were, but they're not down there with the dregs either. There's still a lot of talent there, and two potential stud young starting pitchers in Rodriguez and Suarez.
It's curious to think that upper management doesn't feel the same, but thst might be the case. Late in the year, they were still in Wild-card hunt, but Brian Sabean came out and said they were gonna be sellers, they were gonna shut Buster down, and basically seemed to give up.
Not sure what's going on with Giants, but I'm on Buster's side on this.

Not sure what's going on with Giants, but I'm on Buster's side on this. True, they were sitting at .500 on August 31 so they were in striking distance, but it's more complicated than that. Their payroll sits at a lofty $165m going into this year, $21m of which goes to Johnny Cueto while he (most likely) misses the entire season recovering from TJ Surgery, $19m of which goes to Mark Melancon (who has been hurt and/or largely ineffective) and $19.8 of which goes to Jeff Samardja who has also been a combination of hurt and ineffective. They have catcher-of-the-future Joey Bart down there and he projects very well and young OF Heliot Ramos has talent, but their minor league system is pretty thin after that, so their trade chips are rather limited. They were also the third oldest team in MLB last year, for what that’s worth. With the Dodgers and Rockies figuring to lead the pace in the division, do the Giants have enough tools to make them materially better where they were last year? They were in the bottom 5 of pretty much every single offensive category as a team last year (mostly 2nd to last, beating out Miami) while their pitching was in the middle of the pack in most categories. They're about $40m under the luxury tax threshold so they have some wiggle room there but unless they're willing to unload MadBum, they're going to have to wait for those contracts to expire and for their young kids to pan out. Obviously, unloading MadBum leaves a rather gaping hole at the heart of your rotation. Of course Posey wants to compete, but if they're not willing to add Harper or Machado and deplete the money reservoir, I can't see them improving themselves in a manner sufficient enough to make a playoff push, at least not at this point.

Since the new GM has literally done nothing, I wouldn't count on anything happening. He said this morning he was going to get some quality outfielders.
Guess he doesn't know spring training starts tomorrow

Basically gotta find someone looking to dump a contract, a la what the Mets did with Jay Bruce earlier this offseason. Belt's got $51m left on his deal over the next 3 years. Decent player, kinda reminds me of a slightly better version of Lucas Duda, although I don't see him every day truth be told. Unless they're willing to eat a chunk of his contract, he'll be tough to move.

I still don't get why the Giants would trade him. For prospects? Then they talk about signing some other free agent pitcher. You have one of the best lefties i the league. Sign him, give him what he wants, make him a lifetime Giant, in two years they will be competing again.

I also like Posey this week, "we're always competing. What team doesn't try to compete?" They won't compete but at least he's got the right mindset to try.

Boo. The options for the Braves to land a FOTR arm is getting smaller and smaller.

I really haven't seen the guy play yet, so can't say for sure what he'll be like. I'm gonna miss Hunter Pence, though. A real character of the game.
