Watched Brewster McCloud (1970) recently and it had been ages since I'd seen Shelley Duvall in anything. This movie was her film debut, the first of seven movies she would make with Robert Altman. She has the unique face of one of Margaret Keane's paintings, with her big eyes. She has such a bubbly presence in all her movies. Who could forget her terrified reactions to Jack Nicholson's insanity in The Shining? I forced my poor musical-hating mother to take me to see Popeye (1980) which later turned out to be a financial flop. I loved it all though, only learned it was not considered a great movie years later. Even Duvall herself would tell you she was born to play Olive Oyl. Shelley spent most of the 80's producing Fairy Tale Theatre for cable TV, live-action versions of classic fairy tales. She occasionally acted in them as well, here she is co-starring with HervΓ© Villechaize in the "Rumpelstiltskin" episode. She also produced Tall Tales & Legends and Shelley Duvall's Bedtime Stories. She later moved back to Texas to a quieter life and hasn't acted at all since 2002. Wonderful tribute to a lovely lady. I really do enjoy Popeye... it's just good silly fun ! RE: Olive .. she said that, as a kid, they used to call her Olive Oyl. Shelley Trying a different look here : Bernice Bobs Her Hair (1977) Fairy Tale Theater is a true delight as is Tall Tales. Hoping no one will bring up the sad part β¦ but that won't happen.

Apparently she fell hard. She had that interview in 2015, 2016 and people thought she looked sick.

She does have problems now, and I hope she is getting better help than just Dr. Phil. Not sure of what they might be be, but wish her nothing but good will, she's entertained us all for so long.

I've been meaning to see Brewster McCloud. I know Warner came out with a new bluray of it a few months ago. I grew up in Houston so it'd be great to see the city as it was back then. Shelley Duvall looks beautiful from the screen caps I've seen of it.
Popeye was a fun film. My parents took my brother and I to see it when it came out. We had the soundtrack on cassette. I remember our summer vacation that year, as we must have listened to that one over and over again while we were driving.

Thieves Like Us 1974, was also a great movie, as I remember it.

Always liked her, in just about everything. Had quite a career going there in the 1970's. Worked with top notch directors, too.
She was in a rather strange 'dreamlike' film from Robert Altman called "3 Women", with Sissy Spacek and Janice Rule. Cast and Director/writer/producer is worth the time, alone.
Disturbingly surreal psychological study, moves slow, but? It has something to say. Critics loved it, Duvall may have won Cannes, but, predictably? It had flat box office here in the States.
Duvall and Spacek are outstanding.
A couple of woman discuss their reaction to it:
