This could be a long list, so I would probably just start with the landing of William the Conquer in 1066 with about seven hundred ships with the almost simultaneous invasion of Harald Hardrada and then the ensuing Battle of Hastings.
A time and a battle that has always fascinated me and takes on almost mythic proportions (even though the reality was pretty grim) and was a pivotal turning point in History this was the absolute peak of this barbaric age and I can almost see Conan the Barbarian standing there fighting among them.

On a related note, imagine what it would be like to listen to some of the great heads of state from the past discuss the current political/social/economic issues facing the modern world. Sure some of it may be over their heads, but the great ones were quick studies of these things and could weigh in with relevant commentary more often than not, no matter the topic, I suspect. Don't even get me started on battles. Hastings, Actium, Thermopylae, Gaugamela, Gettysburg, Leyte Gulf, the Spanish Armada, Stalingrad, Agincourt, Alesia, Yorktown; hell traveling around the Battle of the Bulge or The Somme would be a grind but I'd find a way to get through it. Having seen many of the famous monuments of the world, it would be amazing to see their construction, firsthand. The further back you go, the more compelling the backstory since it would be filling in a lot of historical blanks in our understanding of history. It's easy to focus on the famous moments, though. I like to think of the moments lost to history that are the very foundation of human society. The look on the person's face when they invented the wheel. Could they possibly have known how significant this was? Ditto to the first person who sat on a horse. How about the first caveman who figured out food tasted better when you applied fire to it? Think about it; somewhere at some point, there was a first human to cook their food. What gave them this idea? How did their tribe react to it? Crazy to think about that stuff. Then we segue into natural history and really fall down the rabbit hole. The meteor that killed the dinosaurs, the first creature that crawled out of the ocean, the list goes on and on. |

I'd like to see some Samurai in battle. That might be fun.
I'd like to see the employees at Nintendo when they first tried out "Super Mario Bros".
I'd like to visit a record shop from 1909. I've been reading a trade magazine from back then published by Edison Records, and record shops were completely completely different to today.
I'd like to go back to the 1930s, and watch an old slum building being torn down, and then watch a beautiful art deco skyscraper being built in its place.
I'd like to go to the 1950s and take a world tour of shopping places (department stores, malls, etc...)
I'd like to go to 1930s London and watch the early BBC TV broadcasts.
I'll try to think of some more.

Yes, to take along some History books that were written by chroniclers of that age and actually witness that event unfold first hand or observe a controversial figure like Nero who has been vilified through the ages and was filtered down to us through his political and religious adversaries, would probably be mind blowing in some instances. It's easy to imagine that if only the Republican Historian accounts of Bill Clinton were the only thing to come down to us or a Democrats of George Bush Jr. or vice versa. You could go into that future with present knowledge and the authority would be so ingrained that you probably couldn't argue otherwise. Of course you might get sick while visiting the court of Henry VIII with a common cold and someone calls for a doctor and he wants to drain 3 pints of blood out of you and raise some boils, don't question the good Doctor! what a demonic attitude this person has, someone call a priest.  Can we have a 'time viewer'- please  not to mention the hygiene, Oh, didn't think of that did we know-LOL run away!!! crap that T-Rex is fast and don't step there.... The evolution of the first living cell? Now that is an event, The first creature to crawl out of the sea onto land, Were cave women as sexy as Raquel Welch? The Formation of the Known Universe? would that be a contradiction to observe this? will have to ponder this some more.  |

Haha, witnessing any of this stuff would be safer if you could travel as a hologram and not actually interact with anyone. Great point about the cave women. I want to see a party where everyone is getting plastered on berries or whatever, and all the cute homo sapiens are taken so the guy hooks up with a Neanderthal woman. |
